I have a dilemma. Some of you heard my saga of the dude that seemed to be playing games, and after we dated for several months, we ended things on bad terms. Bottom line is that he isn't a very nice guy. We stopped seeing each other a couple of weeks ago and I haven't spoken with him.

At my office today, I noticed he's scheduled an examination (I'm in healthcare) with me in two weeks. WTH? My office is a considerable drive for him, our fees are high, and so this seems very odd.

What should I do:

a) include in his checkup every invasive, embarrassing, and uncomfortable test I can think of?
b) be completely detached and professional and act as if he is just some random patient?
c) have the staff to cancel his appointment if he doesn't cancel it first?
d) other

Have your staff recommend another health care provider. Isn't it generally considered inappropriate to have a doctor/patient relationship anyway? So what if you're no longer dating. The most professional course of action is to refer him to someone else.

Besides, your office doesn't do colonoscopies anyway, do they?

Have to agree with tink. C. is the answer here. If you were a attorney (I am not but have close family that are) this would most definatly be a conflict of interest issue. Have to think that as a health care official you have something similiar as a out in these situations.

Peg came up with the term I was trying to think of, and as usual more good advice.

Funny thing I was just thinking of the Ballad of the Colorectal Surgeon today also!!!!

I know it seems straight-forward, but I've never been in this situation before. We are a service providers, so we don't have to treat everyone, but I've never refused care before except in cases of abusive or dissatisfied patients. I can't just ask partner to see him instead, as that would be unprofessional and my partner probably wouldn't understand. I absolutely see no reason to provide care for him, but having the staff call him to tell him there's a conflict of interest doesn't seem appropriate either.

I suppose I can email him to tell him I've cancelled the appointment, just delete it in the system, and leave it at that...
