I've been modded twice but will keep posting until they go through. ....

I am TRYING to spread the joy I feel that Chicago lost it's bid for the Olympics. WAHOO!

Edit: Well, when the other threads appear, blame Mod central for the duplications!

Don't hate me VBGirl, but for once I gotta side with zal. We downstaters were afraid
there wasn't 'nuff room in the Windy City AND the rest of us were going to have to pay for it. Without any compensating benefits......

Woohoo, indeed!

Hmmm, do I sense a good old fashioned Chicago-type conspiracy? You know VBG is best buds with an eha volunteer advisor and ....... well, do I need to draw a picture here?

Well just for the record, if I lived downstate or out of illinois all together, I would have been in favor of it. My anti-olympic stance was based entirely on the severe and unconscionable inconvenience it would cause me. What with the street closures, delays in services, and (lest we forget) all those freakin' tourists asking me for directions.

Actually Zal, I agree with you too. Not that it wouldn't have been kewl for me personally to watch and go, OH! We were THERE! and I saw THAT! and all that jazz, but the good ol' US of A has hosted them so many times, and South America has had nary a one. And Rio, from what little I've seen on TV, is a beautiful, beautiful city that doesn't get a lot of attention. I'm glad they are going to have a chance to shine now.

Just my proprietary 2CW.

It's not like actual locals get to go to the games. We just foot the bill and put up with the hassle. Does kill my plans though. If the Olympics were here I would have taken a 2 week vacation to Rio. (Crime capital of the world, by the way.)

Been to Rio...hated it...just didn't feel safe. (See zal's post above) But, hey, if they want it, fine...I won't be going.

As for having the Olympics in one's hometown...Atlanta had it in 1996 & it wasn't nearly as bad for the locals as it had been projected, however, that being said, zal still has some valid points.

Sorry to be a party p00per...

sorry you didn't like rio, kibbs... I have been there 2 or 3 times and was totally amazed by it.. spent time in the ghettos.. standing at the foot of the statue on corcovado is exhilarating.. don't wanna walk down dark alleys, but i wouldn't do that in any big city..

Stat, dear, I'm too far away. Would you give him a Spelling Police spanking for me? Thank you, Dahlink!
