I'm an estimator for a construction company and I called 10 security companies for pricing. 6 companies came back with price per hour quotes. 4 didn't respond.

I figured my telephone conversation wasn't clear so I faxed through a detailed request to the remaining 6. 2 companies refaxed their original quotes and 4 companies added more price per hour quotes.

Giving the benefit of the doubt to 4 of the 6 companies, I called them up and chatted for sometime about our needs and what we want, then emailed them the exact look and layout as well as calculations required to obtain 6 options to be proposed in 6 separate lump sum prices for the project.

The Responses...
1 sent through Options 1-6 with a price per hour beside each Option.
1 combined all 6 options into 1 monster lump sum price
1 sent through price per hour per option and the words "depends on what you want"
1 called back and said I want to met with you in person to discuss what you want even though I already had a 1 hour conversation with the person and spoon fed him what we wanted.

Someone please tell me a story where a security guard isn't a thick as a post.

Hahahahaha - oh dear! I assure you, security guards do not have the monopoly on that ... you should see some of the responses I get from our technicians at times.

Anyway - yep, one of the Security Guards of the Victory Hotel in Brisbane is being reviewed for an Australian Bravery Award.

In July, the Victory Hotel in Brisbane caught fire and there were about 400 people on the dance-floor, which was upstairs. He got the dj to cut the music and started evacuating people to the two staircases. He went to one exit and his partner to the other. His exit got completely choked by the smoke, so he had to get the people to backtrack and leave by the other exit. He had help from the other security guard - it sounds like they managed to clear the building before the fire spread and also before the police, fire brigade etc arrived on the scene.
