The first night I got two of the little varmints in the live trap. Unfortunately, I either didn't fasten the bait door properly or one of their compatriots was clever enough to undo it. One got away. They left one to take the fall.

Last night I captured another. The nice animal control officer takes them away every day, perhaps to a lovely forest somewhere far, far away.

He didn't leave me a trap today. I'm not sure what this means. He is not a communicative man. Story of my life. So, tomorrow I'll call and try to wrangle a few more traps out of him. I can hear them gathering on the edges of the fence and in the trees.

They now know I am a formidable enemy. And I will not waver in the face of their cute little cuteness or their accusing stares. The raccoons must go!

That is all...

It will be funny if you catch a neighborhood cat like AsianFusion did with her live trap or something else even!

My landlord for my last place in upstate NY caught a possum living under my house with one of those. I'm so glad I didn't see it. *shudders*

Is that two down, fourteen more to go?

LOL....no. It's two down, about two dozen to go! And there are some suspiciously well-fed stray cats on my list when I get through with the raccoons...

I've often heard that coons dislike ammonia, something about the chemical makeup tricks them into thinking it's urine and because they are so particularly clean, they won't go anywhere they think has been soiled. People that I've know who've had problems with the critters swears that leaving rags soaked in ammonia around will drive them away. Of course, I'm thinking it could be a fire hazzard.

I read the same thing. So I soaked a rag in full-strength ammonia, wrapped it around a piece of broken pottery for weight, and pitched it up onto the roof near the hole they keep making in my porch overhang for their nesting. Next morning, they'd pitched the thing down into the flowerbed.

I guess they DON'T like it!

Full-scale war. It's the only effective method.
