I never knew a female cicada made no ear splitting noise. The one I saw was definitely a male then because that is why i looked up and saw the wasp attacking the cicada because it was screaming so. And the wasp emerged from inside the cicada when in my cigar box but could not get out so it died. Tes, we used to have fun with the vacated cicada shells found on branches and tree trunks as kids.

Oh wow! I am really glad I asked!

Thank You Vaps for feedin me more information, because I had
No Idea that this sort of thing was done. Wow.

I feel so inlightened now, I live kinda in the country as opposed to
bunches of other people, an we have Boat Tons of cicadas, every few yrs there's like a big boost in them, an even this summer when I sit out on my deck at night I listen to them makin noise an it jus sooths me.

I wonder if the wasps hangin round my house are the same type that kill the cicadas.

An since I'm here, anyone know how to get rid of carpenter bees? They are jus a eatin up my porch more an more. An they fly at me when I try to pick the blossoms off my lailac bushes. I know that only the females have stingers, but they are huge! An I'm allergic to the stings so I dont like to have to run for the hills when I got them comin
at me.

They aren't called the 17-year locust for nothing. Very cyclical.
