Maybe the wasp got a call on his celly letting him know your neighbors had better bugs on their porch and he was just being polite for the less technologically advanced wasps - you know, so they could find it easily.

Used in the filters. I don't own a pool myself but buy diatomaceous earth from pool supply stores for some of the science stuff I do. It's finer grained than the stuff at the lawn and garden shops.

The pool variety can be bad if ingested. I only use the good stuffs.
