Old stuff that I remember (but don't necessarily miss).

Candy cigarettes:

Oh, these things rocked! Remember how you could blow out the powdered sugar like smoke???

Back ... well, in my youth, there were these Twinkie(TM)-shaped things that were red and covered with something rather like flaked coconut. I ran across them at a local bakery outlet a couple years ago and bought one. Oy! I know I have changed a lot over the years, but I gotta figure they did too, because it was nasty. I couldn't finish it. Bleah.

I suspect a lot of the things I enjoyed years ago I would not care for so much now. Pity. Still, now I am able to enjoy crunchy maki and pickled asparagus and other such things I would never have tried back then.

Ahhh, VictoriaJ reminded me of some bagel-derived things I used to enjoy back when I was an undergraduate. The grill in the dorm used to fry up bagels cut in half. That was my first experience with bagels that were not Lender's frozen bagels. Mmmm...

Near campus there was a place called Bagel Fragel. One of the items on offer was, no surprise, a Fragel, which was a raisin bagel, deep-fried and rolled in cinnamon/sugar mix. Again, mmmm...

I do miss both those.

Hey, I've got all that (well, okay, I don't think I qualify as a Big Hunk, but the others I do have), but I'm afraid Auntie LiT doesn't like sharing. Still, I am unemployed, and maybe as a little money-making enterprise, ... ;^>

Ooh! That reminds me of another lost/hard to find item in my area:

Sweet, Pickled Cauliflower.

In New England, Cains Pickles used to make individual jars of the stuff. Now, you can only find the one or two sprigs of it in the Mixed Pickles jar (which is highly gross, btw).

I found an Amish Foods company that makes their own blend of S.P.C.-but it just doesn't taste the same.

They still make these too, you just have to find a story that sells non-US candies. World Market used to sell them, and I can still get them at the Irish shop here.

Linkage: Cadbury's Flake 1.1 oz

They make a dark chocolate one now as well!
