When you slid behind the wheel and turned the key in the ignition...what was it like?

But that red Fiat on a hot summer day with a rooster-tail of orange dust billowing up behind me and a swimming hole up around the next curve...that was sexy.
Sexy. No. Sedate. Wait.
What was the question again??

My first time was in a '53 Chevy pickup, scared my uncle half to death. Went to town with him, and he said for me to drive home, I was 14, not even old enough for a permit. But learned a lot real quick. It wasn't sexy nor sedate.

I think I was 12, maybe 14 for a car/truck. I know it was earlier for a tractor and cut my teeth there.

First road vehicle was a 67 Chevy pickup. 4 speed stick on. Wound up driving it till I the first pickup of my own. Would have bought that 67 from dad if it had been 4wd. Have always driven pickups for dailies. Had a 65 Impala convertable for maybe 10 years and have the folks old minivan but the pickup is what gets driven mostly.

Amen to that, Priestess! My first time in Driver's Education Class (shudders)...took me 5 minutes of stop and go braking to drive 200 feet.

Neither sexy nor sedate...but harrowing..... for my instructor!
the lesson ended with me parking right behind a truck with the bonnet scraping the rear high wheels of the truck ...good thing it was parked at the time!
First time I saw a grown-up man sobbing...
