I am moving to Atlanta soon and will be driving cross country from Riverside, Ca to Atlanta. My household goods are traveling via a moving company, so it is just me and 2 dogs.

I was wondering if anybody has suggestions for the route, I guess it will take 3-4 days.

Also any must stops on the way? I will be passing through Phoenix and was contemplating going the I-10 through Texas, but I know that is not very scenic and was also considering I-40.

Well... you could drive many miles out of your way and come up here... but doesn't seem likely...

Vaps, I am not far from Hotlanta (as we Southerners call it). Let us know when you are settled. We need a Hotlanta Meet, anyway!

The Grand Canyon is always great to see, if you haven't already seen it. I've driven both I-10 and I-40 (back and forth waaaay too many times) and I'd pick I-40. It seems there are more towns/cities (Albequerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma City) en route to take a break in. The drive through West Texas is a tough one. (El Paso - San Antonio) While it is pretty at some places, it's a long haul.

I-40 runs all the way to Memphis and from there you can drop down into Birmingham, AL, then pick up I-10 and go straight to Altanta. Or keep going on 1-40 to Chattoonga, then go south. Isn't mapquest a wonderful thing?

It really all depends on how much time you want to spend on the road.
Either way, have a safe trip, Vaps. Sorry to see you go. Best of luck with move.

Ok, two South west road trips, so I can add a bit here. Loved Pueblo National Park in CO, +1 on the Grand Canyon (but I did the north rim), also loved Durango CO, and Bryce Canyon. Not near a map. so these may all be silly suggestions.... PM me if you want more info on these, though...

Have a blast!
