first page 1 boasts liquor divine
now page 85 talks of wine
some would say "tis the season"
for every rhyme there is a reason
outside there's a blanket of snow
soon a man in red will go "ho ho ho"
though my poetry is weak
won't you kiss me on the cheek?
overhead the mistletoe is hung
along the houses lights are strung
days grow short and nights grow long
it reminds me of a song
a tune drifts by oh so grand
its walkin' in a winter wonderland

Darkness lets them rest
Do not stomp on them
If you wish to see their best.

An encouraging word is life
Harsh words are not
Bear a friend's burden
A kindness unforgot

The Pink Notebook

She had a pink notebook with lined pink pages
once when she was fifteen.
Writing thoughts close to her heart
all her secrets it seemed.

The angst of age and circumstance
required tender care
The pink notebook knew her mind
and never would share.

For many years she wouldn't write,
after the pink notebook was gone.
Stolen from her the lined pink pages
by another child gone wrong

The pink notebook was pranced around
she felt sick inside
Pearls to swine, a careless act
caused a soul to hide

Many years later the girl tried to
write stories once more
They served a good purpose
Like the days of yore

Again her words were tossed
unbeknownst to her
Again she felt exposed and
deeply, silently hurt

Blue tears on lined pink pages
Create a lovely hue
Is this the color ink
To try to start anew?

Be careful of the gifts
Of others and yours, too.
Delicate and fragile
easy to break in two.

There are a few men who don't like women, oddly enough
They like how a woman looks and feels
soft to their touch

But distrust is deep in their heart
They had been stung long ago
And now fear invades their soul
Taking emotions apart

What is the cure for these men
Desiring their foe?
Is there any hope for their
frightened soul?

She thought it was her fault
When thrown a verbal assault
She would look close within
To see where she had sinned

She would tread carefully
Worried again she'd offend
Cried and tried her best
To show care to her friend

But he shook his head
Declaring her intentions cruel
He spoke of dark feelings
Which he said she'd fueled.

Then one bright morn she knew
His anger was from him
She hadn't been a bad person
His heart raged from within

When a bottle is upset
What spills out is plain to see
What was already inside
Concealed from you and me

He seemed so good and fun
When she first met him
The darkside was shielded
He hid the truth within

Nothing she could do
Nothing she could say
Would quell his fury
As it tramped on that day

When he shoved her away
With his horrible words
God meant it for good
Her prayers were answered

She hated him hated him hated him
With a fierce hate to endure
Because of the ragged pain
He had caused her.

She knew she had to stop
For this was not the cure
The hate must not abide
Live the love that's pure.

She doesn't really hate
It's just the pain she's in.
But pain will go away,
And then she will begin

Again to feel the sun
Warm on face and skin.
And then she will have won
Her right to begin again.
