I, too, have struggled with the meaning of this phrase. Some of my matches on eH listed this and I wasn't sure how to take it. Perhaps spiritual people are those not affiliated with a specific denomination? But you don't have to be a member of a church to be religious, so not sure that's the answer. I guess I always considered them to be the same thing.

Spirituality is not Religion in my opinion. Religious persons may believe they are the only true spiritual thinkers but I find no eveidence of that. The Soul is the spirit that lives in every individual and the Souls purpose here is to learn.

Some people learn through organized or structured teaching styles ie.. religion. Others purely learn from day-to-day life experiences. Is either one more Spiritual than the other? I think Not!

Humans are born to be Seekers of Spiritual Truths and that resonates differently with each individual person. However, in some areas of the planet what you believe or don't believe is mandated from the time of your conception/birth. To go against what you aretaught to believe or not believe can bring some pretty unpleasant consequences.

Freedom of Religion is only a right in some areas of the world. But freedom to be a Spiritual Being is inherent in all humans.

What does that mean? Why do the majority of people check that box? For me Spirituality IS my religion. God is the spirit within. Jesus was an excellent teacher way ahead of his time.

"Spiritual, but not religious". What does that mean to you?

I feel that God is within and out. When i'm outside i can see feel and smell God's work and when i see another person its a reflexion of Gods work. I don't need a churh to know that God is in mylife.

You can't be spiritual and not being religous. According to the Scripture; there are many spirits; good ones and bad. Somehings may be happening to your which you may think is from God but it's not. God don't want us to just know it in our hearts. He is guiding us through life with the help of his words written in the HOLY BIBLE. You have to know it, beleive, and spread the good news to others.

its the chicken and the egg all over again. u define what's in your heart and I'll define it as it speaks to me. My spirituality guides me to accept your definition of spirituality/ religion is appropriate for you and my definition or understanding is appropriate for me. It goes beyond words (and existed before words) and I believe the control central lives in the very core of our brains with the lobes that are responsible for communicating (what we're doing now) lay around it. Therefore, it can only be felt and know with the heart.
