Right now, things are pretty stressful at work, I'm sick (I have some kind of respiratory infection ) and so I am now listening to classical music. I tend to go through phases with music .. but I guess it had been so long since I just listened to classical music, I forgot about it's beauty.

I'm also finding somehow - I can't explain it - that the music seems to ratify the existence of God. Anyone else find that they have had this thought while listening to classical music?

I've been listening to Pachelbel and Vivaldi (my favourites) and also Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mendelssohn - the music is so complex, I'm thinking, how can that be possible without God? I don't believe it is possible!

It also made me think about the lasting impressions we have on the lives of generations to come. Here I sit, for some composers, more than 400 years since their death, and still their music - whether intentional or not - touches me and makes me think of God and the beauty of life and in people.

I also love Vivaldi, and Chopin.

I love the All American Road Trip. I especially love it with classical music.....when you're all alone on the road, maybe out in the desert.....just you, the scenery, and the music.

I love to go to the symphony. Love opera too.

When you think how some of these pieces are able to move people centuries later.....makes some of the music today seem a pretty poor substitute, at times.

I adore Classical music, especially.....um....Bach. That maybe a bit obvious. Timeless, hence "Classical."

I like how Bach employs polyphony. How all those melodies intertwine is fascinating to me. I like that Bach was a Christian. He said he only wrote for the church. And the actual church building he played at was the same that Martin Luther attended. Different times, of course!

"May sheep safely graze" is one of my favorites as are The Brandenburg Concertos.

Let's not forget the divine oratorio The Messiah by Handel. If you've ever participated in the performance of The Messiah you can really feel God in it.

Classical music lets me fly away to a beautiful land.

Classical puts me to sleep. But I do enjoy listening to it on $60k stereo systems (no not mine, one at a high end stereo shop in Seattle a few years ago).

Good comeback, JS!

I love most classical music. When I am listening to a piece I especially enjoy, I can envision it being part of a music video about something in nature. The two seem to go hand in hand. A gorgeous sunrise or a flock of geese coming into V-formation.

Me likes it too! It is timeless and capable of tapping into deep emotions. I schooled my son for the first part of his kindergarten year and we studied classical music. He would easily recognize the "darkness" in certain pieces and would be frightened. Likewise, for the "brighter" pieces he would make up great stories of animals dancing through the meadow, snowflakes floating through the air and soldiers marching in a parade.

good memories! good stuff! I can see the analogy between music and God too meri75. capable of stirring something deep within us and timeless too.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

Westminster Abbey in London is a good place to listen too!

When my sister was getting a bone marrow transplant and had to be isolated for months at a hospital in another state, beforehand she asked me for some soothing music. I found Pachelbel's Canon in D. The CD has 8 different arrangements of the Canon.

She loved it.
