My Rebel XT is the first SLR that I have ever had. I love it!!! As a starter camera it is a right nice little critter. Relatively inexpensive, easy to use, uses standard CFs, yet it comes with all of the bells and whistles. I got a really nice zoom lens. All of the lenses and most of the accessories are compatible across the entire Canon line. Also picked up an auxilliarybattery pack that has a fantastic grip on it that has all of the function buttons replicated on it. Then I got an exteral flash that you can point at a white ceiling or another similar surface so that the light bounces off onto the subject. That way you don't get squinty or red eyes. That was important to me because I photograph dogs a lot and I was tired of the photos coming out looking like red-eyed demon dogs!

I use Picassa (free download) for storage and basic editing. They have an associated web album site and you can just click on the photos that you want to upload and it will automatically create a web album for you. Pretty cool.

What is your favorite time of day?

For me, as a nightshifter, it is those predawn hours before the human race is up and going and where for a brief time creation dominates the world. The birdsong is at its loveliest and at the same time the crickets haven’t yet succumbed. The sun isn’t up and yet its mellow rays still softly paint the skies and the last of the stars are still drifting downward. The dew is clinging on the leaves and the blades of grass, amplifying the fresh scent of the new day. Yesterday has been washed away and today has not yet begun its chaos. It is a calm mixture of peace and excitement; the world is just beginning to softly stir from its slumber and yet there is anticipation in the air.

What is your favorite color?

For me, it is green – pretty much all shades except for perhaps a really obnoxious chartreuse. It’s so cool and calm and you can almost smell it.

What is your favorite word?

I have a lot of those. I kind of collect them :-) I like the word serendipity. I like the way it sounds, the way it feels on my tongue, the way it looks on the screen and the sense that it conveys, mysterious and hopeful, and maybe even a bit mischievous.

What is your favorite sound?

Lots of these, too. I love the sound of rain, whether it a soft drumming on the roof just as you are drifting off to sleep or a dramatic downpour accompanied by claps of thunder and the crash of lightening that sends your pulse up.

What is your favorite flower?

For me it is a tossup between lilacs and peonies. So beautiful and aromatic. I have a lot of sweet childhood memories attached to them. This is one of the reasons I am so impatient to get back east, we don’t have either of these here in California. Well… we do have a variety of lilacs out here but they are scraggly and have no aroma – truly an offense to the species. I will miss the huge fuchsias out here, though.

What is your favorite bird?

Hands down, my current favorite is the hummingbird. They seem so much more sentient than other birds, more interested in us. Friendly and curious. I can sit and watch them flit around my fuchsias for hours. Every year I always have one that comes up and greets me and the dogs each morning. Just kind of hovers in front of me for a few moments and then dashes over to say hi to each the pups - always Bit first and then Evan -before continuing on with whatever it was doing. And they, even being avid bird dogs, never bark they just cock their heads and quietly watch him with a goofy grin on their faces.

What are some of your favorite favorites?
Favorite time of day: I'm a night owl. Anytime after 12:00 m is just fine with me.

Favorite color: Brown with it's complimentary colors yellow, green, and the various shades.

Favorite word: pneumonultrmicroscopicsilicovalcanoconiosis It really is a word look it up.

Favorite sound: Pop-corn popping. Even though I can't have it.

Favorite flower: snapdragons

Favorite bird: Cardinal or bluejay

Favorite non-star trek movie: Lord of the Rings (any)

Favorite non star trek TV program: ER

Favorite book besides the Bible: Moby Dick
