I agree that Sanibel is fantastic... but don't try it during Snowbird Season. The roads down here get really jammed up when the folks come down for the winter months.

I have heard the panhandle beaches are the best, pretty much anywhere.

I always liked the Sarasota area beaches, Longboat Key and Siesta Key. I would love to go there and Sanibel.
I didn't want to reveal my location here in EH but I have to respond to this. Those beaches are what's making me staying in Sarasota!!!!! My day start or ends with Beach. I love run along the water. Kewwwwl

I went to Panhandle beach at night once. I was driving to Texas with my ex and passes thru there at night. It was magical. I'm sure it's beautiful during day time but I still can't forget that beautiful image at night.

I love Amelia Island. It's only an hour from where I live but when I spend the day or a long week-end there, I feel like I am miles and miles away. The beaches are wide, the historic section is calling you to explore and the bike paths are plenty! Hey, I should be a travel agent!

I'm a Florida native and have lived in Tampa, Daytona Beach, Jacksonville and Panama City.

The best beaches for me are the ones on the Gulf Coast because the water is a clear blue-green and the same as in the Bahamas. The sand on our beaches is a beautiful white and feels soft to the touch. They color it sugar sand because the granules are so tiny and soft and are wonderful to walk on.

This area can be quite and isolated if you want a getaway like Mexico Beach or busy, filled with shopping and golf like in the PC Beach and Destin area.

There are lovely quaint communities filled with art museums and amazing restaurants like the Red Bar in Grayton Beach or the more advertised quite communities featured in Southern Living like Seaside.

I have to vote for the Panhandle.......to me.....it has it all.

Little Gasparilla Island. You need a boat to get there, or you can take the Ferry from Placida. It's private, unspoiled Florida paradise. If you want to be close to nature, this is the place for you!
