Trivia!

I'll start off with a quote. The person who answers correctly gets to pick a new quote. Quotes may come from anywhere in the book but MUST include dialogue.

"I am now convinced, my dear aunt, that I have never been much in love; for had I really experienced that pure and elevating passion, I should at present detest his very name, and wish him all manner of evil."

Who says that quote? Name the character who says it.

I think Elizabeth Bennet says it to her aunt Mrs GardinerafterWickham's engagement becomes public.

Assuming I'm right, my quote is "If he had had any compasssion for me,' cried her husband impatiently,'he would not have danced half as much! For God's sake, say no more of his partners. Oh! that he had sprained his ankle in the first dance!"

You are correct!

Your quote is spoken by Mr. Bennett, on the occasion of Mrs. Bennett and her daughters coming home from the first ball Mr. Bingleythrows at Netherfield; Mrs. Bennett is giving the 'play by play' of the dance.

Here's the next quote:

"The power of doing anything with quickness is always prized much by the possessor, and often without any attention to the imperfection of the performance."

Hi Immerito-Darcy says to Bingley chiding him for his "boast" that when he is in the country he loves it, but when he is in the city he loves the city. He says that if he were motivated, he would problablly have his bags packed overnight and leave Netherfield for London post haste. Darcy states the ability to do anything hastily is generally a disguised boast, and a hastily written letter, sloppy and ill written or illegible, or a sudden move, a burden to servants and acquaintances is not anything to be proud of, but that the ability to do anything quickly is generally prized by the individual regardless of whether the job is well down or hastilyor poorlyaccomplished.

"Three things very dull indeed." That will just do for me, you knowl I shall be sure to say three dull things as soon as ever I open my mouth, shan't I--looking around her with the most good humored dependence on everybody's assent)--Do not you all think I shall?

"Ah! ma'am, but there may be a difficulty, Pardone me--but you willl be limited as to number---only three at once."

Siren,

That quote is from the novel Emma; Miss Bates says the former quote, and Emma the latter. Since this is a P&P trivia contest, do you have another Pride and Prejudice quote?

.....from adetermination of making him speak, she continued"I remember, when we first knew her in Hartfordshire, how amazed we were to find that she was a reputed beauty, and I particularly recollecthour saying one night, after they had been dining at Netherfield,"SHE a beauty!-I should as soon call her mother a wit." But afterward she seemed to improve on you, and I believe you thought her rather pretty at one time.

"Yes," replied_, who could contain himself no longer, "but that was only when I first knew her,for it is many months since I have considered her as one of thehandsomest women of my acquaintance.

The first quote is Miss Bingley; the reply is Mr. Darcy, when Elizabeth is visting Darcy and Miss Georgiana Darcy at Pemberley.

My turn: ``They have both,'' said she, ``been deceived, I dare say, in some way or other, of which we can form no idea. Interested people have perhaps misrepresented each to the other. It is, in short, impossible for us to conjecture the causes or circumstances which may have alienated them, without actual blame on either side.''

It is Jane speaking to Elizabeth about what Darcy dislosed regarding Wickham's true character (not all of it, not some personal particulars, that comes later. They are trying to decide whether to make his character more generally known, so that Wickham would not victimize any ot the townsfolk.

"Would you believe it,___,that when he went to town last November,he really loved me, and nothing but a pursuasion of my being indifferent, wouuld have prevented his coming down again!"

Why is this just a P&P contest, I know all her novels front to back, and we are the only two participating!

When the ladies were separating for the toilette, he said to _"Do not make yourself uneasy, my dear cousin, about your apparel. Lady_is far form requiring that elegance of dress in us, which becomes herself and daughter. I would advise you merely to put on whatever of your clothes is superior to the rest, there is no occasion for more.Lady_will not think the worse of you for being simply dressed. She likes to have the distinction of rank preserved."
