I'm late to this, but I'd love to take it. I just started jiu jitsu and it's a great workout...I totally understand the nervousness starting a new class. I've been TERRIFIED before each one. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I'll be able to go without being sick to my stomach. After only 2 classes I can see a change in my body. My plan though...

S-Pilates
M-Jiu Jitsu
T-Break
W-Strength training (morning)/JJ (evening)
H-TaeBo (morning)/JJ (evening)
F-Strength (morning)/JJ (evening...maybe)
S-Salsa

Hi, I am new to the group. I have the same problem ,I've been doing the same routine for about six months now and now I'm getting bored. I have been thinking about joining a gym however, I always get intimidated when I see how well other people can keep up with the Instructor any suggestions anyone.

If you like jiu jitsu you should swap out the tae bo with muy thai. It's functional and a great workout.

I think dito is right.

Stick with it until working out is a routine to you -- that is, you don't have to work hard to talk yourself into going, and you actually WANT to go. Most people say this takes 3 - 4 weeks to achieve.

I've been working out for 6 mos. now though and I still need to talk myself into it from time to time.

Then, in terms of sticking with it for the longer term I think you have to vary your routine a bit -- still go the same days but take a class vs. just weight training/cardio machine, or take a different class than you usually take, etc.

Keep us posted on your routine! If you post about it here we can help keep you accountable

I was on track to run 5K in certain time (personal goal)....shaving about six minutes from last year. Had a little injury earlier this month, so need to take a quick break...but hopefully will do under 30 minutes before my next race.

I initially wanted to start with muay thai, but the school I train at has all students start in bjj, then if they like, add on muay thai (MMA school). I have really bad knees though, and I think MT will end up being really hard on my joints.

I've actually switched out my usual strength training with flow fit...pretty challenging and people say it's great for fat loss.

One thing that I noticed....30 minute of strength training, balancing and/or yoga..can be as exhausting as running on a treadmill.

In the past I have actually cut down my weight training to 60-70% of my normal capacity (like for example..for bench press), but instead of pushing the weight quickly, I did the whole range in 10 seconds....definitely get your muscles working harder!

So far I'm still staying consistent. I thought our basketball team (church league) was going to practice twice a week, but starting this past week we dropped that to once. So I'm going to substitute running the track for that day. I ran this past week for the first time in about 6 weeks. I had been doing a mixture of things with twice a week on an elliptical. I felt like I was building my endurance on the elliptical, but you really don't know what kind of shape you are in until you actually run. I was pleasantly surprised. I ran 5 miles straight, walked 1/10, ran a half mile, walked 1/10, ran another mile, walked 1/10 and then ran another half mile all within an hour.
