How much weight have you lost since you began the efforts you're undertaking right now?

I am down 26.5lb since May 1st of this year.

Once I have some replies I'll add the total to the subject line and update it each week.

YAY US! We're LOSERS!

Plateaued...this is so typical I am determined and that means I finally am going to break my no "diet drug rule" and get some assistance in the form of an "Alli". Just purchased the product today. Has anyone tried this yet and what were your experiences? Otherwise they have thier own e-community but unfortunately my screen name was already taken. Hope this isn't considered cheating in this group but when it involves health...a princess has to do what a princess has to do.

I would say I started consistently working our hard back in April of this year, and at that time I weighed in at 179 at a height of 5'10. I'm now down to 172, and my goal is to hit 170 by the end of September. I'm afraid I won't be much help in our overall total because absolute ideal weight for me is going to be around 165 so that will be the ultimate goal, and I don't see going below that.

I know it would be hard to measure actual pounds of fat loss unless you had seen a doctor at the start of your working out and had all the various tests done that measures body fat composition, but it would be interesting to know that total as well. For instance I figure I will have put on at least 4 pounds of muscle by the time I reach around 168, and even though that would be an 11 pounds difference on the scales, it would be an actual loss of 15 pounds of fat. If you would have told me 6 months ago that I had 15 pounds of fat that I could lose I would have told you that you were crazy.

PR_Princess I have not tried Alli - I have heard mixed things about it. Have you asked your doctor his/her thoughts about you trying it?

Walter, that's an interesting point. The last time I lost weight (8 years ago) I did no weight training so to fit into the size pants I'm wearing now, I had to be 20lbs. lighter. But since muscle weighs more than fat from a volume perspective (meaning something made entirely of muscle is heavier than something made entirely of fat even if the items are the exact same size), I'm able to weigh more and still fit the pants.

Did that make sense? lol

Walter....I noticed the other day that my local Wal-mart has begun carrying a portable body fat analyzer which uses electric impulses to measure just that. The manager at the local Curves gym out here used to use it to measure us (when I used to go..way back when) It was nice as she would input the results into her computer and it would spit out nice neat little graphs plotting our progress over time.

As for those funky little blue pills...I begin taking them on the 26th so if I stop posting...err I'll let you know where to send the flowers before then..hahaha (JK) So far what I have read is these things make you run for the border if you aren't managing fat intake properly. I'm not a big fan of the leaching of some essential vitamins as a result of taking the pills...this gives me some concern even though they assure it will be balanced out by taking a multi-vit in the evenings. Otherwise I have to say very impressed with the website as they provide a lot of guidance for the health ignorant (specific daily/weekly menus, workout schedules, and my favorite...neat little quizzes) Still a bit leary due to my green tea fat burner experience so I am proceeding with caution!

As of today I'm down another 1.5lbs for a total of 28, plus Walter's 7lbs = 35, so I added it to the thread title.

Everyone post your weekly progress here and I'll keep updating the tally.

PR_Princess, glad that Alli is going well so far and that their site is helpful. Please keep us posted!!

FYI...began taking the orlistat pills on Saturday and happy to report no side effects so far. In my opinion I think it is because I have already modified my diet so much due to health issues in this household and in general have always being conscious of the choices I make while shopping on a budget. The minute you do try to eat something with a significant amount of fat grams you do feel some discomfort and basically the fear factor alone prevents a person from eating anything containing a significant amount of fat, at least for me it does

Right now...my goals are really focused on portion control and increasing activity levels. Hopefully life goes along swimmingly but I'll have a better gauge of it at the end of 30 days since if something doesn't go wacky in the first few days it is usually by this time if there are signs that it is something that will help or hinder my health goals.

I'm down to 171. The pounds are really hard to come by right now. I'm giving myself until Tuesday to see if I can meet my goal of 170. That is when we officially start basketball, and my goal was to be at that weight by then. This week is really hectic though so I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep my full routine.

Way to go, Walter! Did you meet your goal in your desired timeline?

I'm down another 3lbs this week so I'm updating the thread title -- anyone else have updates for our thread title?
