Do you have any trigger foods that you can't really eat in moderation? What are they, and how are you or do you plan on controlling your intake on these?

For me its macaroni & cheese - any kind from the blue box Kraft to the good, old-fashioned southern crispy crunchy top layer. I start out with a small, normal portion but before you know it...yeah, not pretty!

Cheese in general is a slippery slope for me. I could kiss chocolate / sweets goodbye forever without batting an eye (and I pretty much have kissed them goodbye) but I'd be very sad to have to give up cheese.

Now I only eat lowfat or lite cheeses and am very strict with regard to portion size.

How about you? Share your trigger foods and let's talk healthier alternative, portion control strategies, etc.

I think it would be easier for me to list the foods that aren't triggers

There are so many things that I just have to stay away from completely, and there are so many foods that I haven't had in over 7 years.

Doritos were a big thing I would get into and just couldn't stop. Another thing was yeast rolls. If I went into a steak house that had yeast rolls then I'd devour 3 or 4 rolls before the steak even got there.

Yeah, I can't bring myself to say goodbye to my triggers but it's rare that I'll indulge and when I do, I generally put myself in a situation where I CAN'T have too much of it - like, order it at a restaurant and split it with someone. Then, light eating and the gym for sure for the rest of that day and/or the next day.

Have you tried Baked Doritos? They're pretty good! Maybe I shouldn't tell you that

(Have you ever heard of a trigger food that isn't fat, sugar, or processed flour?)

I don't know any trigger food that I can eat in moderation... I will eat whatever is available...really... it's a trigger food.

Salty-fats are the worst for me followed by crunchy-processed flour stuff.

I guess chocolate and ice cream are trigger foods. I've found it much easier to allow myself a portion size on a daily basis. 1/2 cup of LF ice cream or 140 g of dark, dark chocolate.

Cheese it's something I enjoy and I usually restrict myself to the LF ones, but I was in Vermont over Columbus Day and picked up a pound of 4 year old Vermont cheddar. I just finished the last oz of it today. Sliced it on top of spicy, black bean veggie burger, on a whole wheat bun.
I make my own Mac and cheese, Lori. Just measure yourself a serving size of high fiber or whole wheat pasta, cook them to taste. Take a serving size of cheese, slice or chop it up, sprinkle over the cooked pasta and nuke it for about 30 seconds, stir and serve it with a serving of stewed tomatoes. Eat slowly and enjoy.

I think I am addicted to trigger foods and I think you can give them up if you ween off them. I agree you can't now and that reveals the addictive nature of them. I hated broccoli and califlour...they're now my favorites. Yep... humans are just that maleable.
