I was just playing my guitar when my pick broke. Oh, wow! I say. I have to stop playing. I was quite into it. Things were moving along, the composition getting easier in bursts, but I still wasn't fast enough to keep up with my own thinking. It was all right brain stuff, the kind of automatic knowledge that you didn't know you had. It doesn't have words, and it doesn't have names...it just is.

This is when I thought of future rainbows. This and where I am in life, and more importantly from where I had to leave, because I have either left or been kicked out of several women's lives, for a moment, or who knows...even longer...and then there are others who drift beyond the moment of immediate memory, into a distant, let's catch up, sort of correspondence. But I love most of them, and respect and admire the others...if only I knew them so well...

But at any rate I am comfortable...I have made art this week of a few days ago, drawing, sketching, painting, on the floor, on paper thick and durable enough to sit upon, which I did, as I marked and blended and portrayed the small as though it were large, the ignored as if it were important, the shy escaping things because they are the marks of our having come this way.

I have played, but if only one day I will play for others. It is private, resolute, and secretive. It is a whisper.

Who hears?

Shoelace I had no idea you were an artist as well. Good for you! It’s easy to say "I lack talent, or rhythm, or time," and forget to nurture the poetry within each of us. It’s irrationally hard sometimes to just enjoy it for what it is, the way we (or at least, I) used to with crayons as a kid. I had aspirations of being a master sculptor when I was nine, but I also wanted to be an electrical engineer. How we change so colorfully. *grin*

Who hears? It is it a lady down the hall, as she waters her plants? Stray cats on the walk, wondering *what is -that!-* Someone sitting at a stoplight outside, if only for a moment? Perhaps it is only you, the rats in the walls, and the lady down the hall. Perhaps today is a performance for your mind, an exhibition to be later shared with someone you’ve yet to meet. Feed that whimsical right-brain side of yourself and watch it grow.

Future rainbows. Something beautiful, ever beyond reach, filled with myth and mystery. I suppose women have been called that before- only the best ones, but who’s to know? Ah, but you can catch a rainbow between the rain and sun anytime. So who is to say they come not at your call? So many drops of rain, every one waiting to burst forth chromatic splendor. A happy image, thanks shoe. *grin*

Good luck with your compositions. May your joy be shared.

A very nice metaphorical image. An you leave it open-ended as to whether the drops may be us, moments of time, activities we might engage in, or even other forms of life...future evolution.

Open ended is in the nature of language, is it not? How can one truly know what meaning another assigns to the words you use? By leaving the reader or listener choice and freedom to interpret, constructive free-from dialogue appears. When we restrict our meanings, we are attempting to teach, learn, or argue. With friends, I prefer open ends- one never knows what paths they might lead to…
