Fetish VS Kinks

What differentiates between the two? Licking boots (which I've never done btw..don't judge!)....people can consider that a boot fetish..which is what a kinky person would like.

If a partner wants to smear maple syrup over you and enjoy you like a hot'n delicious pancake, does he/she has a maple syrup fetish, or just plain kinky?

I heard that the distinction is that with kink...the activity, props or whatever, enhances the whole experience.

Fetish: The object replaces the pleasure of s-e-x itself.
