It never ceases to amaze me; but why are certain people humorless, uptight, and easily offended? It is not my intention to single out anyone. I'm just interested in the psychology that motivates such people.

I must confess. I've always been a bit of a prankster. I attended a Christian college in the past, and it never ceases to amaze me those who seem to be on the lookout for something to offended them. You would think it was only retired people who had time to be busybodies, but there are those in the Christian community who seem to be looking for things that don't match up with their legalistic expectations.

I previously mentioned the local Christian bookstore that stopped carrying the religious satire publication The Door, because someone found the content "offensive." And true, you don't want to engage in certain things that would cause a "weaker brother" to stumble (Romans 15). However, the tyranny of the "weaker brother" must also not be allowed to dictate conduct or policy for others.

In my first year of Christian college, I wound up on a dorm floor where the guys tended to be more legalistic. However, my proceeding years, the guys were more good natured and fun loving. But, they were also younger, which means they also had all-night "blue flame" parties. However, I appreciated the fact that were not so uptight and legalistic. On our dorm room floor, there were two sheets of paper. On the first sheet, we wrote down our favorite Christian songs. At the time, I wrote down Steve Camp's rendition of Keith Green's Asleep In The Light (Therefore, I wrote something down of a more serious nature). However, on the second sheet, we were to write down our favorite "secular" song. And I wrote down, Ted Nugent's Wang Dang Sweet Poontang. Well... the fun natured guys on my dorm room floor had a good belly laugh over that one. And, they had a second good belly laugh when I told them it was me, since they did not expect it.

Besides, how could you not love Mr. "God, Guns, & Rock and Roll"? "Terrible Ted" loves loud guitars and big guns, and has long been a staunch advocate of the Second Amendment. So... "wang on" Terrible Ted!

isn't he born again also? i think he is. had a link to a video been posted- well i think that would have been problematic. but i agree, there needs to be room for levity. this is not a club for gregorian monks.

So a song that talks explicitly about sex is just making room for levity? ok...

I think I'm in the wrong thread.

There have been several song dedication threads lately that do not really invite responses so I would like to start a thread that allows song dedications and sharing of favourite songs. Hope this holds on because I am always looking, myself for great faith music. If you don't mind though, I have closed the others for now and hope the song references get moved here so it is easier for us all to check them out.

Thanks,
Coeuri
See: Aretha Franklin, Good News

Extra, extra
Read all about it
Extra, extra
We heard the good news

We've come this far by faith
Pick up your pace and don't you be late
I'm here to tell you about the good news
There's something about the path that we choose

Wisdom has built this house now
Integrity will bring your pride out
If you know how to pray the situation out
You'll get an answer, and there ain't no doubt

Monday, we held it together and
Wednesday, we had stormy weather and
Friday, we prayed it all better
And Sunday, we heard the good news

He won't stop blessing you
Look here, what He'll do
Is keep testing you
And a beggar's no less than you
'Cause one day it could be you

So get your folks together for some church
Some good music, prayer, and service won't hurt
Even if you don't like the preacher
There's bound to be a thing or two he can teach you

Monday, we held it together and
Wednesday, we had stormy weather and
Friday, we prayed it all better and
Sunday, we heard the good news

Deceit is in the heart of them who imagine evil
Righteousness is the fruit of the tree of all people
And if you want to live your life upright
Pray that the Lord will hold up the light

What you need is love on your side
The power of love won't be denied
I feel comfortable giving you this advice
Don't make the same mistake twice

Monday, we held it together and
Wednesday, we had stormy weather and
Friday, we prayed it all better
And Sunday, we heard the good news (Repeat)

These are the greatest days of our test of time
We need to be walking with a made-up mind
Walk by faith, not by sight
Then all your battles, you know He will fight

If the sky changes colors there's so many ways
This world's gonna be a better place some day
If love and unity, you just believe
Then all your blessings I know you'll receive

Glory to God in the Highest
Glory, Glory, Glory
Jesus, man who walked on water
Jesus, He's alright, He's alright

Monday, we held it together and
Wednesday, we had stormy weather and
Friday, we prayed it all better
And Sunday, we heard the good news (Repeat)

Angels Unaware, Words & music: michael w. smith & wayne kirkpatrick

Maybe there’s a light in my soul
Maybe it flickers like a neon sign outside an abandoned hotel
Maybe there are things you just can’t know
But can you say there are no mysteries in the house you choose to dwell
Maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
Maybe there’s a place where we will fly
But some say God is dead like nietzsche said and faith has made me a fool
But maybe there is more than meets the eye
Who’s that stranger there beside you? don’t be smug and don’t be cruel
Maybe we are entertaining angels unaware

Battles of the heart and of the mind
We stay caught in mental purgatory ’til our existence can be defined
Meanwhile on the shores of parallel
There may be a holy conference held somewhere discussing all mankind
Maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
I say maybe we are entertaining angels unaware
Angels unaware

Soaring, somewhere, longing, reaching
Searching, knowing, loving, caring

Let me take you by the hand
Lead you to the promised land
And trust him with your heart
He’ll lead you home

Voice Of Truth, Lyrics and Music by Mark Hall and Steven Curtis Chapman

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name
And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy, you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

Chorus:
But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
The voice of truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don't seem so high
From on top of them lookin' down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.

With You, Lyrics by Mark Willard
Verse 1:
You have been so good to me
How can I find the words to thank You?
Healer of broken hearts and broken dreams
Lord, I will never cease to praise You.

Chorus:
With You, all things are possible.
Like an eagle I can soar.
With You the giants fall
They rise no more.
With You I overcome when fear and faith collide.
There’s nothing I can’t do
Anything is possible with You.

Verse 2:
I am constantly amazed
You are a God forever faithful.
As I look back on my history of grace,
how could I be anything but grateful?

Chorus

Verse 3:
No mountain is too high, there’s no valley that’s too deep
You’re calling me to walk by faith so I will take a
Leap...take a
Leap

Chorus x2

Anything, anything is possible with You
With You
It’s possible with You.
