Marcia, When this thread was started, Lindsey, Rix and Notyet was not moderators. I was the one who left it, because I do believe that we, as Christians need to recognize ourselves as the real full people that God made us. What is the interest in building Christian community if we are chopping off parts of our lives to fit into other areas because it wouldn't appear faithful enough or something? How real is the faith we are expressing in community with each other if we have to cordone off some areas. Isn't that somewhat deceptive?

I am glad you felt free to voice your opinion, and I am glad that Rix felt free to voice his. We all grow as we exchange our views and your question has spurred some others to think through their own opinions on this issue. Thank you for that.

I am also thankful that Lindsey started this thread though as a chuckling way to deal with someone's early criticism of a few posts in a thread. She has reminded me that laughter and simple caring has its place even in this Christian community. Thank you for that, Lindsey.

I thought I'd stick my head up and see what's going on in here.

To anyone who is offended by this thread, I'm sorry. It was never intended to be a serious fan club with all the attention on me.

To those who have spoken in defence of this thread, thank you. I appreciate your kind words.

I hope this will continue to be a place where people can come to relax, have some fun, or let us know how we can be praying and supporting each other. Just because my name is in the thread title doesn't mean that it all has to be about me. It doesn't have to be about me at all, in fact. If you have a story - happy, sad, angry, whatever - feel free to share. Those of us who have posted regularly in this thread love stories and we love to encourage each other.

Ah yes, a "Jesus only" fan club. After all, anything else is idolatry. Then perhaps, we should dictate the type of music "Christians" listen to? It doesn't matter if it's a song by some "godless secular artist" extolling homespun family values; if God is not at the center, you are definitely "unspiritual" for listening to it. Then perhaps, we could further regulate and refine conduct, behavior, and attitudes and created the perfect city of God on earth; as Calvin did in Geneva? Under threat of strict punishment, no one will be excused from Sunday services, and heresy is a capital offense. Ah yes, we could create the perfect paradise on earth, where "God only" fan clubs are allowed. We could even print up T-shirts around Christmas time of Jesus vs. Santa, and how Jesus kicks Santa's @ss. We will have the perfect society as God intended, where everyone is a perfect cookie cutter robot, and no mindless or "unspiritual" diversions are allowed.
Well I can hardly wait until we get to heaven so that we can see Him fully face to face because now we see in a glass darkly and we make all kinds of presumptuous statements about who He is and how we should act. I only saw Jesus get angry one time in the Scriptures where He started a fight and wanted to kick some butt -that is when the sellers were defiling God's temple and ripping off the people. So I really can't see Jesus duking it out with the big fat guy over a holiday that we created to celebrate His birth. The concept of Santa was once in the spirit of the true Christmas- selfless giving, which we now have also perverted into one full of greed and selfishness. (please don't anyone try to tell me about the history of the holidays and how they came about, I am well aware of this history that they were replacements for pagan holidays. I am not trying to start any argument over how Christmas came about)

Secondly the Father gives us free will to allow us to choose but desires that we would choose Him and His ways in all areas of our lives. Being a Christian doesn't mean that we are boring, dry, and dull. Being a Christian is full of life, light, and fullness. He desires to be King and Lord of our lives- so should we tell Him that only certain areas of our lives are set apart for Him and the rest is off limits? That makes us the little god who sits on the throne of our lives. I also dont feel that we can dictate to others and punish them for their walks or decisions...that will be left up the to the one and only Judge who is fair and knows each of our hearts more intimately than we know them ourselves.Only He can be the one who says that we have idolatry in our hearts. One day we all will live in His kingdom and it will be glorious. We have glimpses throughout the scriptures of what that life will be like and it is nothing like what man has tried to do here on earth.

You seem to have a lot of sarcasm and I really don't know you, so it is hard to know if you really believe or feel the emotions behind the words you have written. I do know that God created us in His image and gave us an incredible creative mind. So I don't believe that He wants us to be mindless robots. I believe that He enjoys watching the creative energy and thoughts that His creation come up with, just like I enjoy watching my own children grow and learn. I believe that we have barely tapped into what He has for us and the best is yet to come! Just like all the prep I did to make Christmas great for my kids -- I can hardly wait to see what He has in store for me .

Mary

So . . .

Anybody heard any good jokes lately? Who has a story to tell? What happened to the lighthearted nature of this thread?

I have two jokes. One is clean. One is dirty.

Let's start with the dirty one. Here goes:

A white horse fell in the mud.

And now for the clean joke:

A pig took a bath!!
