For those who don't know the (NATD) in the subject line is a disclaimer meaning the thread is Not Another Theology Discussion

I really enjoy movies. There are two movies (actually one is a trilogy) that I feel were more than just great cinema but in fact were spiritually significant. I'd highly recommend anyone over 16 to view them.

One was Braveheart with Mel Gibson

The other was the Lord of The Rings trilogy.

Of course the Lord of the Rings books were written by Tolkien who was a well known Christian author and contemporary of C.S. Lewis, and Braveheart was one of the most inspiring movies I've ever seen.

What are some movies that impacted you?

The Ultimate Gift was really good. Even my 12 year old son laughed a LOT during it, learned a lot from it, and cried at the end. And he's at the age where he wants to see the "in" movies, not necessarily the "right" ones!

That is a good one...for some reason, I had never watched The Christmas Shoes until a week or so ago. I showed it to my high school students to fill some empty time due to final exams...even had a football player about to cry. =D

P.S. I love you is my favorite at the moment. I seldom go out and buy a book after watching a movie, but I had to read the book as well. The book was good, but the movie was better I think. Opposite with One Night with the King -- AWESOME life-changing book, but the movie was just so-so.

Haven't heard of that one, but I'll check it out. I hear "Fireproof" is supposed to be very inspiring as well.

Crash - shows how we're all connected and how our actions affect others.

Big Fish - about dreaming big and living to the fullest

Forest Gump - everyone can take something different away from this epic movie

Stranger than Fiction - A light-hearted look at struggling with death

P.S. I Love You - a lesson on how to get back up and live again after getting knocked down hard

The Pursuit of Happyness - persistance pays off

Kingdom of Heaven - good mix of religious, political, and military lessons

I loved the Pursuit of Happyness and PS I love you,as well. Christmas Shoes is a tear jerker.

Fireproof was good, there are two other movies by the same church. Flywheel and Facing Giants. Both are "B" rated as my daughter would say. Not major box office hits, but they are good average movies with a strong message to Christians.

I also really enjoyed "Welcome to Paradise". As you can tell the ones suggested here are not 'mainstream' , but I've enjoyed watching them.

At this time of year, I pull out my favorite classic "It's a Wonderful Life". Enjoy!!

I think I must have butchered it then by watching the movie first because it seemed nothing lined up like the movie. Even so, it's an awesome story!

Thank you...a male that actually watched it and has the guts to admit it. I have this bet of sorts with a good friend who is supposed to be watching it. He still hasn't quite followed through...but will.

As Good As It Gets, is a movie I have always liked and the unlikely nature of the friendships formed between the succesfful but misanthropic author, the troubled waitress with a sick child, the in trouble gay man is I think inspiring and shows in its own way the power of love.

Thelma And Louise, a beutiful road trip movie and the friendship (love) between Thelma and Louise and their ultimate death by sucide is both very upsetting and inspiring in an odd sortof way.

I loved Braveheart and found LTR excrucisatingly boring--no fan of fantasy movies.

Forest Gump is about as perfect a movie as it is possible to make.
