I learned earlier this week from the manager of a Christian singles social club which I'm a member of (near where I live) that the doors are being closed forever at the end of the year because of a lack of growth in new memberships for the past several months and a lack of interest in signing up and attending social events for Christian singles. He's spentasignificant amount of money in the past four yearsto keep the doors open and find new ways to attract new members. I find it very sad that this is happening because that organization helped me lose my shyness, overcome my hurting, and be more outgoing. I want to be around people get to know them better, and have fun at the same time, but I'm very leery of being with non-believers in an outreach-based social club. I know of a mega-church which caters to Christian singles and there's another Christian singles social network nearby which I could try attending. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to try at the start of next year in which I could meet Christian singles?

How old are you btw? I think where you go depends on your age....at my church there are different 'singles' groups based on age....20s, 30-40s, 50-60s, etc. Some other church just classify them into various like 'after college', 'young adults', etc.

I tried singles group before, but I decided to just join any groups, without the 'singles' label attached to it, so I can socialize better without feeling that it'ssomekind of a Christianmeat market.

Depending on what your personality also if you like big groups, small groups, just activities? Deep conversations?

Hope this helps.

the uhh 30s don't belong with the 40s Sorry...

I know alot of churches that do this sorta thing and even toss in the 20s like some hodgepodge of singleness but that is just the WRONG approach altogether.

Apparently your group wasn't meeting their needs in some way or the interest would have still been there..

I'd recommend avoiding the mega-churches. Just because their congregation is big doesn't mean they're teaching The Word of God there. And also remember that you're going to church to learn about The Lord and fellowship with other Christians, not pick up chicks!

What are you saying Jason... are you suggesting that God didn't institute this organization we call the church in order that we can shop for a date?

Is it THAT important to you that the 'groups' only cater to SINGLES? Otherswise, there are other ways to meet potential singles...such as , mentor a kid- do the 'kid activies'...theres a lot of single or single-parents that go to sporting events, church events, even dances...join the YMCA and get involved in some groups- even working out, you neve know who is going to be on the treadmill next to you...theres so many examples i could give that might be a bit more PRODUCTIVE than just going to a 'singles group' which can end up being a 'meat-market' anyway....Do God's work and then your single-ness won't be such a priority.....GOD will introduce you to someone in HIS TIME and HIS WAY...don't need to go to a singles group for that! Like the ol addage...stop looking and you'll find! lol...Sorry to hear about your friend though...with society getting more into communication via technology, and less from socialization, its not a surprise that he has to close...let us know on the boards how you come out! GOOD LUCK!

Why is it so important that a group cater to certain age groups. While I agree that we all need friends our own age we also need friends from other age groups as well.
