One of the best book of collected short stories I ever read is called The Blue Dress. All the authors were shown a painting by Bryan Dunlop titled The Blue Dress, and then each wrote a short story.

Has anyone ever participated in something like this?

No, not yet, but I have found a few sites online with themes like that. One was a twist on Eve -- write an Eve story (Adam & Eve), but something different. I'm not doing it on that topic, because I didn't feel inspired, but I did like the idea.

I saw a few MSN writing groups like that. Maybe weekly or whenever, the moderator or other persons would introduce a subject.

Everyone would write about it. Or on other groups, everyone had to write an exercise-in first person etc.
