Here's a little joke to explain why so many engineers are on here....

How can you tell the difference between an extroverted engineer and and introverted one?

The extroverted engineer will be looking a YOUR shoes when he talks to you!

For those needing an explanation...the introverted one will be looking at his own shoes.

I am an engineer and work exclusively with engineers for obvious reasons. All of my colleagues are married. I agree that some engineers are not very articulate but my personal experience is that in most cases they compensate for that by being kind, attentive, etc. I very very really receive an engineer as a match, so I have no explanation for that.

I think eH believes that the personality of an engineer is weighted too heavily in one direction for most of them to be matched with each other successfully.

Depending on the bias of the personality type, they're probably matched with nurturers or free spirits for balance.

there is a higher liklihood of engineers of being more anti-social or have asperger traits in being very shy and aloof when it comes to dating.

Engineering is a self governing profession so to qualify as an 'Engineer' I'd say you have to be recognized as such by your provincial/state/national engineering association.

I'm an Engineer by education (BEng and MEng) but if I were working in a different field (e.g. Management) I would not identify myself as an Engineer.

Engineering is a convenient catch-all thought it seems. Still, there are SO many engineers and it IS still rather predominantly male. I'm not surprised there are many on eHarmony. Engineers are comfortable with technology and trained in problem solving. So...looking for a larger dating pool? Solution: look online. Very practical.

Contrary to the myth, we're mostly pretty normal and socially adept. Love the jokes though. My favourite: Dilbert - The Knack - YouTube
