So, what causes a guy to sign up on EH when they aren't ready? I just don't get it. Is it a whim or what?

I could ask the same question to the women.

Rbel: They are not ready for what? Commitment? If that's the case, the answer is easy: Oh, they are ready... They are ready to have fun, to meet different women and try to get laid. So, when you come across someone who says they are not ready, be certain they are not ready to settle down and commit. Sad, but true. Good luck. Celo

I believe that both Men and Women who are at our age are hesitant to see what this option for meeting people is all about. They want to just stick thier toe in the water and see what it is like and in some cases they just aren't ready. Because you never know how long someone has been active on sites like these you may stumble across these people and they aren't ready. Just my thohgts, KC

ahem, there are plenty of free/fishy site for that. I thought this was for the serious folks. guess you got money to burn or it is what we say we are all trying to avoid, cruising.

It appears that online dating sites have become what bars once were. it is very sad because many of us are honestly ready but are forced to weed through the ones that are either just looking or just in it for sex.

Then in all fairness you shouldn't be accepting matches. There are plenty of other sites out there for people just "looking" or want quick hook ups. People (both sexes) are sincerely hoping to find love and companionship and you are from jump street defrauding.....

WOW! what conclusions we jump to! no, i am not looking to "hook up." you are both right- there are cheaper ways to do that. no- i am not currently accepting matches, another assumption. but you have to start some time, some where (if you do eventually want to be in a relationship). do, pray tell, explain what is wrong with propping open the door and peeking inside to see what is looking for who and who is looking for what? neither of you know my situation- i don't know yours either. just because i am not ready for a serious relationship now does not mean that i will not be ready for one in the near future- and does not mean that it is wrong to see who and what is available.

I think both men and women may think that they aren't ready, but might be for the right person. I know when I was looking to "just date", I met someone who the first date was 30 minutes, and the second date 11 hours - he joked and said he liked to watch First Date and wondered how someone could do that, but now understood.

As far as the financial side, I guess you could give up a week of mochas and pay for this site - I dunno - just joined a week ago...

I agree w/ KC however, for those of us who "have been out there for awhile" it is frustrating to think you have a match only to find out that the person isn't ready to jump in the pool (after testing the water, of course) but only wanting to get their big toe wet. I would think if a person goes to this extent to meet someone w/ similar background/personality/values, etc...they would be ready to swim a few laps. Happy swimming!
