I just finished Steve Harvey's "Act like a lady.... Think like a man" I thought it was a great book (one of the better relationship books I have read). A lot of my thoughts and perceptions were nailed right on the head. I don't think that all men think a like but I think the average is pretty high. I wondered as I was reading it if "Act like a man.....Think like a lady" was in the works lol. But, then again based on Harvey's perception of men. What man would read it

Hello,
If this book you mention is amything like it's name, it realy isn't worth reading. Unless you read material for merely something to laugh about.

The tittle of this book apears to re-open the issue of "gender bashing" which has been discussed on other threads;it also suggests support of the theory of gender superiority.

When will people put their effort into understanding the genders in a realistic and productive manner?? If a women is encouraged to act like a lady under some circumstances, and like a man in other circumstances, she's asked to deny who she realy is, in order to elevate the nature of the male as if thats the only way to survive in this world, or get what you want.

Same with men. Why should a man have to try to take on characteristics of a lady to try to get what he wants in life.

When will we all get realistic and except eachother, and accomodate eachother's respective genders. It sounds to me,like this book is just another book that encourages people to play useless games.

But yeah, go ahead and read the book, keeping intelligent perspective on what is said. Maybe there will be one or two bits of positive information in it. the rest you can just get a good laugh at. But don't mess up your relationships by thinking you should pretend to be something your not. You'll get tired of not being yourself, and others won't appreciate it either.

I know I can be pretty blunt about some things. For those who are offended by stark honesty, I appologise for any personal offence you may have felt in reading this. I wish us all whole and healthy views that produce whole and healthy relationships.

Take care,
Lisa

I haven't read it yet, but know several female friends who did, and they all loved it. I would really like to hear a man's opinion of it though.

I read this book and thought it was alot on the mark. It also put some things in perspective that I couldn't really grasp before. It's kind of a different take on "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus". It helps us to understand a little more about thought processes.

I also read the book and thought it was quite helpful. It put into print some areas of dating that I suspected but wasn't really sure. The book itself is more like an older brother giving you the straight talk.

I've heard/read some women who bash this book (quite often without reading it). My feeling - you can rant and rave all you want but in the end, men tend to act a certain way and women tend to act a certain way. I can't make others act the way I want them to act; I can only change how I act. But, the book isn't about playing games. I found that its more of a female empowerment advice. In other words, it tells you not to put up with a lot of nonsense and stop wasting time on someone who won't treat you right. So, I followed some of the advice and found that my current relationship is much the better for it.

It may be that this book is simply ill-named, and has worthwhile information, for people who are puzzled about the genders.

Take care,
Lisa

Yes, have read the book and have shared it with a couple of friends. I belive the book is on the mark and is very enlightening. It answers many questions I have had for years.

It would be neat for not only women to read it but men also and get the male opinion of the book. I do appreciate Steve Harvey and his willingness to share.
