I'm new to eHarmony but a disturbing trend has shown up in the gentlemen selected for my consideration. Two-thirds of the guys have photos of themselves holding some sort of "Trophy Fish" with wicked grins on their faces. Nowhere in my profile do I indicate any interest whatsoever in fish, fishing or even eating fish-so whats up ya'll? Hunter/gatherer mode? I haven't seen any women post pics of themselves pushing a grocery buggy!

Personally, I love those pictures of men doing something they love outdoors. Sometimes holding the story in their hands (versus having to tell the infamous story of "the one that got away") tells you all about that fellow: He is living his moment, he is genuine in that picture. Let him have that and where is the woman? She is taking the picture and loving it right along with the guy. In my profile, I do not not include any interest in fishing either but the better question is do you include in YOUR profile you dislike fishing, fish, even eating fish? If this is so abhorrent to you, then you should do your prospective matches a BIG favor and spell that out in your profile somewhere appropriate. It will save you and them misunderstandings and time. Interesting, I have never pushed a grocery buggy but I have pushed my share of grocery carts. smile

We must be getting some of the same matches! I find those pics kinda hot, to be honest. I love the goofy grins, the salty/sweaty bare chests, the gorgeous ocean backdrops, the fantasy of the day on the boat with him. . . .

I rarely fish so I never had one of those pics taken. When I was in the military one of our lieutenants, who was no outdoors person (an engineer), had one of those pics on his desk as a joke because he was nothing like what the picture showed. He called it his obligitory man photo. I guess it's suppose to show that we're tough and rugged. I like the joke angle better.

I'd rather see a fish than a bare chest. I have nothing against a bare chest, I rather like them, but I want to see that AFTER I get to know a man. For an initial "meet me" photo it's a big turn-off for me. I figure it must be an ego-maniac with an inferiority complex. I'm not sure I've seen that on eHarmony, but I have on other dating sites.

Heh, it's my obligatory man photo. I don't have any sports equipment, power tools, nice car or any other stereotypical man toys so my wing has to do. I always thought it more an old man's bike, built for comfort instead of speed like a crotch rocket or bad boy's way too loud rumbling hog.

As for pictures on a dating site, I'd rather see a variety of pictures of my matches doing what they like to do. It also gives you an idea of their interests. I'd love to meet someone who rides, thus it is one of my pictures. There's no ulterior motive, I'm not self centered enough to have an ego. I want to see pictures of people doing what they like. I don't want to see glamor shot pictures. I want to see you doing what you do in every day life. I just need to put the picture in the proper context and not jump to any conclusions about your personality.

I get rude comments when i post pictures of what I do. Men are so immature, I can't help it if I can do the splits

I've seen WOMEN posing with their cars, motorcycles, homes, holding a drink while looking completely drunk, or rifle in hand and the deer she just bagged, etc.

These photos are not gender specific.
