I am looking for rational advise on how to begin dating again and your adult children are the obstacles. They want to screen everyone who you come in contact with.

How are they obstacles? Do they live in the same home as you? Are you dependent on them for survival? Do they monitor your computer use? You have some serious co-dependency issues if you even let them have a say on who you date or what you do on the computer!
Tell them, firmly, but politely, that you're an adult and can make your own decisions. You appreciate their protective attitude, but they need to mind their own business.
You raised them without their advice, right?

I do not agree with Robecology. True, you did raise them but, now it is not only your life, it is theirs too. I agree on them staying out of your way but, include them as much as you can. I have never had any kids around but, I only know what I feel is right. There are a few good men out there, and it is getting harder and harder to find us. If they keep planning things without them, then I would be moving on. That is why it is called a "FAMILY PARTY".

My kids are afraid for me. I mentioned that I might want to date. They worry I'll be taken advantage of and said not to go on any computer dating sites, that I might get killed. They don't live here. They don't live with the desire for human contact that I do and they do not see me as I see myself. I'll always be Mom to them, I suppose. It was a 1st for me to be told not to do something by my boys. Of course, I set them straight. Do not tell me what to do, as I do not tell you anymore. They should be more afraid that I teach in the inner city! I talk about dating with my friends, follow safety guidelines, and when I introduce them to my fiancee', my children will learn how we met.
