Maybe she's a bad speller. I dated one, half the time I had to re-read what his emails said. It didn't stop me from liking him.

Curious as to why you're posting this. Are you trying to point it out and get some laughs? Are you looking for justification to communicate with a bad speller?
You have been around the Advice site awhile so you may have picked up that I tend to see things differently than other people and that my sense of humor is sometimes just a tad off the beaten path. I will attempt to explain what I am seeing in this situation.

In case you are not familiar with how the dating site Chemistry works let me explain. It is Match's attempt to use the same concepts of psychological profiling to match people as eHarmony uses. It is my belief that personality traits that mesh together between two people is what makes them compatible. I also believe that you can test and measure these traits and then "describe" the person. What I am saying is that the concept used by eHarmony or Chemistry is valid, how well the system works is determined by how well it is designed by the people involved. You or any of the others may or may not agree with this but it is not the subject of this thread or of this discussion.

I also believe that ones personality traits are for the most part formed through their upbringing. In other words the environment in which they were raised. To be compatible there are certain personality traits that need to be similar and and others that should be opposite such that that trait in each person compliments the other. The traits that influence such things as ambition, drive, goals are also part of what leads people to get an education. (The educational system in this country sucks but that is the subject for a different thread.)

Now that we have the preamble out of the way this is what I am finding funny (or absurd) in this whole thing.

As I mentioned in the OP I am not a subscriber to Chemistry and my profile states that. So from Chemistry's point of view the reason to send me matches is that I will get matched with someone that I feel is highly compatible and I will want to join so that I can communicate with her. Or that through the matches that I receive I would feel that their system is one that will do a good job of matching me with someone who is going to be highly compatible with me and so I will join for the opportunity of getting future matches.

Now I only posted the two sentences that she wrote to describe her occupation and so none of you have had the same opportunity that I have of seeing the rest of the profile. However, I do not see any indication that this is a typo nor, as someone mentioned above, an attempt at humor. Also, as subtle as it may be, I differentiate between someone who is not so good at spelling and someone who lacks a basic education. In this particular situation I sense a lack of education.

Since I believe that education / intelligence is one of the things that need to be similar to create compatibility I have to take a view of Chemistry as that their system is not very good at predicting compatible matches. My reason for this thread is not against this particular match but to point out the failings of another dating site that uses the same basic concepts as eHarmony.

Hey you asked

I work in post-sec education and deal with a lot of immigrants and ESL (English as Second Language) people. I'd caution not to be too hasty on the spelling. Could be this person is fluent in five languages and English is not their first language. Could be she is still a very intelligent and fascinating individual.

Another case in point - I enjoyed the benefit of a man who mentored me for many years who was incredibly brilliant, but his spelling and grammar were atrocious. He more than made up for it in his ability to apply critical thinking skills, strategic planning, and leadership. He is still my "go to" person even though I've now surpassed him in my field. I used to be a stickler for spelling and grammar (it used to literally hurt my eyes to see things spelled incorrectly). Now, I focus on the message being sent more than the spelling of it.

Maybe his "A" button was missing and he had to make due?!?!?!

I once knew a guy who's spelling so atrocious, that I think he even misspelled his own name at the end of the email.

Some people, just can't spell. And this guy wasn't stupid either.

wow. I feel sorry for her- poor girl is only looking for love like everyone else, and strangers are making fun of her spelling and education.

Joking aside- I'd have to say yes, although sometimes people make typos in their profiles (I know I do), it doesn't necessarily mean that they're less intelligent.

Gr8guy- sorry normally I side with you on things, but this time maybe you could cut that girl some slack. We can only judge it based on what you share here too though.
