well malwarebyte removed 48 malware proggies ... but NOT Personal Guard. Ugh.

I knowI wish I could..unfortunately the PC business pays my mortgage!

I'll look to see if I can find anything else for the personal guard.

Try this:

1. Deactivate system restore.

2. Reboot

3. Open up Task Manager as quickly as possible as the computer boots up. If you see Personal Guard come up in the list of processes (not the list of applications), "end" it immediately.

4. Run Malwarebytes

5. Reboot immediately when the program finishes (and after you've removed all of the checked items).

6. Did it work this time? If so, turn System Restore back on.

I sort of had a similar notion ... I was going to run the scan again let it id the bad program, shut it off in the task manager then click remove.

I think the malware scan takes to long to shut it off before the scan is run.

What's the purpose of turning off the system restore? Mine only restores if I tell it to restore, and it lets me choose the restore point ... or are you tellin me Personal Guard can tell the system to restore it upon deletion?

I haven't tried deleting it in Safemode yet either. I guess I will spend another 5 hours on this tonight ... *big old sigh*

Turning off System Restore will delete the prior restore points (which likely contain info from the malware or viruses that you don't want to restore and that could possibly cause problems even if you don't do a System Restore from those restore points). You don't want to create a new restore point until you are sure that the computer is clean (from what you said about the results of the scan, there were a lot of things to clean up on this computer). You've already said that it didn't work to do a System Restore, so there is nothing to be lost by ditching any prior restore points.

In case we're talking about different things...to turn off System Restore, go to Start, All programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore... Then click on System Restore Settings and check the box that says to turn of System Restore on all drives. Once you get the computer cleaned up, you'll go back in and check the box.

You don't need to wait for Malwarebytes to finish running to use the Task Manager to close any Personal Guard files that show up in under the processes tab (in fact, I urge you to "end" them as soon as you see them). Malwarebytes will find the "bad" files whether they are actively running or not.

The instructions that I suggested earlier are what worked for me on my computer. I no longer see any signs of Personal Guard now...

Have you had any better luck since your last report?

Well the last scan/remove virus really messed things up. Now I can't get to the system restore any more ...

Looks like I'm calling a specialist t come fix it. *sigh*
