Here's another emergency tool that seems like a good idea. Hazmat, do these fire ladders work? How nice to have someone to ask!

That really depends on the person. (size, agility, strength, fear of heights,etc) If it's over 2 stories, it might be worth it because of the jump. It may not reach, but we could get you with a real ladder from there.

I know this isn't maybe how the thread was going, but I learned another good tip when I was doing offroad racing. Again, very simple and obvious, but not everyone thinks of it.

If you're not actively helping with a situation, be quiet and stay out of the way.

I've seen it so many times, where people want to see what's going on or "be there" if help is needed. That's a good thought, but what really ends up happening is that the people who know what they're doing can't hear/see/act on the situation now. Let them do their job. If they need help, they'll yell for you.

LOL...We get that a lot, and you're right. Recently we were working a complicated extrication of a patient in a wreck, when a podiatrist pulled over, walked up to the scene, and started giving orders because he was a "doctor". We politely told him to get lost, which got his panties in a bundle and he wrote to the Chief to complain. What a weenie...

I will add one other item I like to keep in my car in addition to jumper cables, a small tool kit and flashlight. I have had one for over 10 years yet am surprised when people have never heard of it. It is an air compressor for your tires that plugs into your car. Not that expensive considering it can get you to a safe place if you develop a flat in an isolated area and cheaper than calling a tow truck. I know you can keep the aerosol can to fix a flat but I am not sure how long they last. Anyway, it has helped me (and friends too) out of a couple of jams.

I have one of these too. Too bad I found out about them after 3 flat tires! I'm ready for the next one that will hopefully never come.
