Obviously the world is only ending in the USA, because there is nothing on our news about it!

Anywhere you find religious zealots, you'll find a warning that the world is coming to an end. They use that ploy to scare you into redemption... which of course you can only get bysupporting your local church. It's all about scare tactics.

2012 is unsubstantiated speculation.

Awww...I just now find this thread?! Oh well. I've got 100 to 1 odds that nothing apocalyptic happens in 2012 . If we are going out, though, I imagine it'll be us that does it to ourselves.

Yes... There are those who would like to make"Armageddon" a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Earth has experienced many so called Great Deaths that seen the utter destruction of very successful life forms. Most of these were caused by comet/asteroid impacts. There is increasing geological evidence that the boundaries between the various life zones are not extensive in time but rather quick, caused by some catastrophic event.

At any rate, no one knows if 2012 or some other arbitrary date will usher in the end of the world for human beings, but it will very likely happen to us at some point in time. There seems little reason to think that our relatively new prmate experiment in evolution will, unlike all the other bio experiments in the geological past, be exempt from some catastrophic event that will end our rule on this planet.

So do as we might: This Too Shall Pass.

This is one of the primary reasons we are trying to colonize Mars.

The 2012 Olympics are in my home town that summer. If the apocalypse would be kind enough to wait until after that, I'd be most grateful.
