I tend to rude to people with no mannors. Those who talk on their cell phones while at dinner with others. Those that talk too loud in public. Those that talk and text while driving. I have told a person at my dinner table, " If you don't want to poop that phone out your butt tomorrow, you had better hang up! Cell phones are off limits at my table!"

I'm never rude.... wish I could be, but I always see my mamma over my shoulder and just go through the southern lady motions to get on with what I need to be doing. It can be a blessing and a curse... I just can't be uncivil. I even try to be with phone solicitors... I am not successful.

I started to say "yes" and then realized that I was thinking about assertiveness instead. There's a difference between rudeness and being assertive.

I don't believe I am overtly rude. I can, at times, be tongue-in-cheek, 'ironic', and abrupt. But uncivil? Seldom. Even to phone solicitors, cuz I know those are just poor sods who are trying to make a living .... It is hard to make a living in 'commission sales'. Especially by phone. They generally get 'abrupt'. Not 'rude'.

'Ironic' fell on me today cuz I caught my Self making a 'rude' comment to a business associate. It was a deliberate 'poke', a deliberate 'out there' antagonism. He took it in and fired back, but missed. I thought about it afterwards and I felt like a heel. Really. It was a 'cheap shot' by me. There was no reason to say it, except to give my Self a short term rush of 'ha, see? told ya'. It was 'little' of me and I do regret the remark now. When I see him again I will 'make it right' between us. It wasn't rude enough to warrant an apology, but it was enough that I know his opinion of me 'slipped'. It was my mistake to 'stoop' and I know I have lost some of his respect as a result.

I can be rude to people who don't mind their own business. Like this past summer, my son and I were walking to the car from swimming, and this women just interjected her useless thoughts into our conversaion. Had nothing to do with what we were talking about, and it p*ss*d me off...so I told her to shut up and mind her own business. I felt really bad when I did it, because I did it in front of my son...but I meant every word.

I am not often rude... sometimes I may say something without thinking, but purposely rude, not often...

The only time I can be rude is when I have PMS - the words have only just formed in my brain when they immediately come out of my mouth and that's it.... lol... It has only happened on a few ocassions, but anyway.....

Are you rude? To whom, why and do you think it's okay? Some of you may recognize this as a topic on an Oprah show one day this week.

I thought it was fascinating and I also think some of us are pretty rude here sometimes for reasons I figure are self serving. I'm guilty too....sometimes a topic hits a nerve and I rant and rave and say sarcastic, rude things too. And I get plenty of rude remarks on the topics I post as well..... Fair is fair....I know if I don't want to get burned to not stick my hand in a hot fire.

But what are your thoughts about rudeness? Why do you think we do it? How does it make you feel as both giver and receiver?
Anonimity, plain and simple. The idea of engaging in something without reprecussion is to strong a draw for most people. Imho, most of the rude, mean-spirited people you see on boards are unappy with themselves in real life, are held within the entitlement grasp so tight they feel everyone else should suffer in some way shape or form.

Other than that, internet rude is nothing to be concerned about, it's just the way it is.

Now that is just plain classism, a persons lack of more than one large house with ample land is no reason to be rude.

On a serious note, seriously, excuse yourself from the table, if you really NEED to take a call, don't make calls, you are out with people whose company you should be enjoying, if you aren't enjoying their company, don't talk on the phone, just leave.
