If you want to plink some game, I recommend this:

The MP5-PK .22 from German Sports Guns. I have one of these and it is AWESOME. Perfect for killing squirrels. Also good for zombies.

emma, firearms are the best way to rid varmints, but not in the attic. You'll be putting holes in the roof. Besides, when you go up there to shoot 'em, they're probably gonna hide. If they don't hide when you go up there, a crossbow is your best option. Poison will kill them but they might hide & die in your attic and start a'stinkin.

A standard size rat trap will break their neck instantly if baited properly, and if you don't have it in ya, just go with the Have-a-heart trap then release it outside. But you have to close off the holes they're getting in through.

Sometimes I wanna give you Americans a big hug.

Up here where I live (Toronto), if people tried to get rid of rodent/vermin pests the shootin' way, we'd have nosy do-goodie animal-loving neighbors ratting us out to the cops and animal control authorities ... and a tac-squad would likely show up at your door and take you down!

Oh, we have them here too, don't kid yourself. That's what crossbows are for. When I retire, it's going to be somewhere where I can shoot off of my back porch. Like Canada.

Try Kentucky Tweet. I shoot bottles and cans in my back yard all the time. The one time the cops got called, I ended up having a marksmanship contest with a KY state trooper!

I lost.

Absolutely! The poor Animal Control officer in my town shot a very troublesome, aggressive beaver last year and faced months of death threats. Of course there were also signed petitions to have the town fire him. The animal was a public nuisance and a menace. Yet people were outraged when the officer did his job.

Not to mention unsightly holes in the ceiling, and fresh drinking water in my bedroom whenever it rains.

I don't want to deal with them dead or alive... I frighten easily, and will probably shoot my foot rather than my new housemate. I had someone come by yesterday, and he couldn't find the pesky critter. I think he leaves during the day, because he's back tonight, although thankfully not gnawing away at the house. He thumped around a bit when I first got home, but is now quiet. Anyway, my handyman is scheduled to come by and look for entry points, and seal off any openings he finds.
