I was going through some interesting stories on Yahoo and found this very interesting article about a letter written to a former slave owner by one of his former slaves. Letter from freed slave to former master draws attention | The Sideshow - Yahoo! News

This post isn't about the letter as much as how well written it is compared to the average American today. Here is a link to the conversation on FB that inspired the other half of this thread. Yes, given that it is FB I shouldn't be surprised at the lack of grammatical skills.

That man had a wee bit of anger he hadn't quite gotten past yet...

There was more, but I think the portion I snipped shows the lack of ability to even spell.

Gotta go rub some BenGay on my Atheist now... LOL

That man must have been a fairly difficult slave to control. I'm sure he was useful though.

"Sure, I might come back. Will you pay me for the 25 years I did for you in the past? Will you stop shooting at me?"

That is a fabulous letter. I wonder what happened next?

A slave is on the balance sheet, and not the income statement.

The right reply to this is to request back the price paid to purchase the slave, plus interest.

And when that is provided, to consider the offer.

Hahaha! I'd assumed he was born on the plantation. Even so...

This slave is one I'd have preferred not to own, no matter what he could offer.

Owning DL wouldn't have been easy either.
