So, I was away for a few days, and while I was gone a new roof was put on my house, and my friend across the street was taking care of my animals.

When I got back, she told me my next-door neighbor came over with a photo of some nails and a bill for $716 for me to pay for him to get 2 new tires. He told her some nails from my roof were in front of his house and he got a flat, and he had to buy a new tire, and the opposite tire had to match so he had to buy 2, plus a warranty and some other stuff, and he wants me to pay.

She showed the roofer the nail photo and he said they didn't come from my house -- the old ones they took out were old, discolored, and had tar all over them (the photo nails were new-looking), and the nails in the new roof are a different type and color of nail.

So she told the neighbor No. He hasn't approached me (yet) so I'm hoping he's done.

I've lived next to him for years, so I know him, and I think it's very possible he needed new tires and thought of a way to get the roofer, or my friend, to fork over.

Shake down!

Got a good shake-down story? (hopefully with a good ending)

I don't have a "shake down" story for you, however I have a nail gun, a compressor and enough hose to take care of his other 2 tires for you if you like!?

That sounds like the reason. Doesn't exactly seem like a trustworthy neighbor. Hope he gave up and won't try anything more.

Well, very many people in the country are not able to sustain a sudden expense of $750 (why they are in that condition, and how much is their fault, is seperate from the fact of it.)

And people don't like suffering losses due to someone else's careless or incompetance.

But, nail holes are nearly always repairable, so your conclusion sounds likely to be correct.

And even if the claim were true, I'd refuse.

(Too bad you have to live near such a scary poor person.)

Thank you! Don't think I haven't thought about vandalizing his car, many times!

However I am trying to turn a new leaf and focus on being compassionate towards him (but without paying for his tires).

Tell him to dial 1-800-Judy.

She'll set him straight.

Haha! I'd love to go before Judge Judy! Actually, watching her show has helped me understand what people are and aren't entitled to.
