This one made me think of scarlett. Tattoos have become hip, cool the new It thing.

AT&T - Tattoo businesses thrive, despite recession, as more Americans accept body art

I caught a glimpse of some tattoo in some music video that Lady Gaga was in and I will admit it was a little bit intriguing.

Anyone else have a favorite tattoo they've seen?

hah!

I've said it before- but there are people with tattoos and tattooed people. the latter are not the ones getting them for trendy purposes nor would they ever dream of getting them removed.

the former are... well, you know the type.

it is really amusing to me to see people with no tattoos walking around with Ed Hardy hats, jeans and purses. dorks.

Oh yeah...
the thing is, these boneheads don't think about the fact that it's not like buying a trendy purse or the fancy phone...
a lot more difficult to get rid of...and it leaves scars.

I'd also be willing to bet the vast majority of those reflected in that article, are of the former type you have mentioned.

"This is a trend that feeds on itself," says Ben "Monk" Valdez, owner of a San Jose, Calif., shop and veteran of Northern California's thriving body-art scene. "One lady will see another lady with a tiny butterfly and say, 'That's cute. I want one of those, too.' Next thing you know, you've got millions and millions of people doing the same thing."

And there it is....

People put much more thought into the art that they hang on their walls.

This trips me out as well - who ARE these people buying Ed Hardy stuff?!

I have a tattoo - and very few people know - I got it for ME - not to prove anything, not to be anything - it has special significance to me and while it surprises some people if/when they learn I have one, most people that know me say "I kinda figured you'd have one somewhere".

For my career, it IS good that I do not have it somewhere I cannot hide it - some places in my field will not allow you to work if you cannot cover yours - something I think is somewhat ridiculous, but in some instances, it is for safety.

I hate three tattoos. I didn't get my first one until my mid-40s. I had always wanted one and got it. Two of my tattoos are incredibly imporant and personal to me. I will never regret getting them. The third was totally spontaneous on the top of my foot and I love it too. The two that are personal are located in areas that are not visible to the public. I got them for me, no one else. I love them all.

I have a number of tattoos. Most people who who find out I have them are shocked. None of mine are visible unless I want people to see them. ALL are of personal signifacance. They have nothing to do with being trendy or hip or anything else.

I hate seeing people who get them to be cool or something else. I hate the tramp stamp. Just doesn't do it for me.

Visible body art is fine. People need to keep in mind they are judged by appearance and those visible tattoos can keep you from getting jobs. Sound unfair? That's life, folks.

I like the visible tattoos that seem to blend in well with their look, their personality. It becomes like a permanent piece of clothing that they wear. I think it's rather difficult to get a tattoo that works well in that fashion that's visible, but I have occasionally seen them. Mostly on celebrities.

I don't really like the tattoos where it seems like a random item placed in a random spot on their body. Sometimes it seems very distracting to whatever they are wearing. Lines crossing over it or something like that really bugs me. lol

If I ever got one, I would do something of personal significance. Can't think of one I'd want when I'm 80 though. /shrug
