Lately there have been Marmite flavoured crisps on supermarket shelves in England.
Fascinated though I was, I abstained.
I cannot stand Marmite or Promite.

I like the smooth version only. And I eat it with butter, or butter and honey.

I have tried peanut butter and jam (jelly) sandwiches and I think it must be a bit like Vegemite. An acquired taste ... and one which I did not acquire!

I really can't see much difference between them. Is that an awful thing to confess ?

We call it peanut paste. I like it but it doesn't like me.

Peanut paste! lol! I love aussie-isms.

So why do you people still have a queen? Does she matter to you?

Yes we still do. She is the Head of State under Australia's present constitutional arrangements. The Prime Minister is only the head of government. Acts of Parliament require royal assent. I find this to be a useful check and balance, insurance against the development of a malignant change in the relationship between the Australian government and the governed.

Having said that I acknowledge that many disagree, there is a strong republican sentiment. 11 years ago, I think, there was a referendum, which was defeated because the conservatives cleverly took charge of both sides of the debate. I wasn't unhappy.

I just wish for the sense of mystery that royalty used to be able to maintain. The British tabloid press are voracious, worse than the American paparazzi. I am still a monarchist, if only for reasons of satisfaction with the constitution (as it stands).

Oh, that's interesting! I didn't know the Queen had any actual governmental role. Check against a malignant parliament, eh? Not such a bad idea!

I wonder if we could invite her to take back the US?

Probably! They're Clayton's! I've got some friends from VIC and they love Promite, they prefer it over Vegemite.
