Here it is, copied/pasted:
I teach Spanish, and today my kids had SOOO many questions about the Maya's prediction that the world will have an apocolypse in 2012. They wanted to know WHY they predicted this, and if it was really going to happen (yay middle school). It was actually a really fun discussion! The short answer is probably not. But, on the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. Some people say that whatever energy typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will be disrupted on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m., causing a a whole host of changes that people are predicting.

While I believe this "theory" is totally whack...I think it's fun to think about....how would you change your life RIGHT NOW if the world WAS going to come to an end in 2012?....

Oh and here is what I posted in response:

What an interesting question! Great topic!

I would:

-work less

-travel more - see faraway family & friends and go to places I'd always wanted to visit, just to experience it before we were all kaput!

-never worry about money again

-never count another calorie again

I wouldn't change a thing. I would keep writing, keep experiencing life, keep making happy moments with family and friends.

I'd probably hole up amid the chaos and looting, and just protect my family and what property I could.

I might take a tent and some supplies out to the East Texas Piney Woods to get away from the city people.

I doubt travel would be possible, since the airports would immediately shut down (nobody would come in to work, right?).

For the same reason, the flow of oil would cease -- that's a hard job, if you've never done it, and nobody in their right mind would keep pumping if we just had a few more months left. So that would mean no more driving.

Food. Water. Ammo. That's what you'd need if the world was coming to an end.

I went down to the Houston area after Hurricane Ike hit them.

Houston was a ghost town. The freeways were swamped with debris and fallen trees.

What gas stations weren't bled dry had lines several hours long. Water became more precious than gas.

There was no city noise even in the city.

We had water and gas in the back of our truck, and I wished to God we'd brought a couple of guns. I was scared we'd get looted.

Believe me, you'd want nothing but food, water, and ammo.

Forget all that romantic cr.ap. If the world really was ending, our 21st century hombres would all go caveman in a matter of hours.

I heard that the Mayan calendar was cyclic and as soon as one cycle ended, another started..... 2012 is just the beginning

And the Mayans didn't predict anything ending at all, it's just a significant date to them. That was a westerner's idea for yet another cool apocalypse movie.
