Presumably there is more to the story, but on the face of it, it would appear that she had a very good lawyer, and that he was very anxious to get out of the marriage.

It's a bit of funny math to say that the settlement leaves her richer than him, in that it doesn't take into account what he will earn or how the value of his assets might increase over the next seven years as he pays her alimony. At the point of settlement, she is receiving $13M in cash and assets and his worth is $16.5M, so he has hardly been left in the poorhouse.

The fact that she apparently asked for substantially more than that, though, does not paint her in a particularly good light...lol.

It is so complicated, ya'll, and it doesn't even have to be.

I'm all for people getting their just share, and since no one really knows what happened behind closed doors, it's hard to say. But I think that this sounds excessive, especially if he earned the majority of this money. 50-50 would have been fair.

If he earned 99% of the money, anything other than 99 / 1 would have been unfair.

Through, to be fair, she should now be reimbursing him for any sudsidy on her artificially-elevated standard of living (plus interest.)

Some people have no concept of "fair."

Bump that, yo.

Folks, the ONLY reason Hugh Hefner still has a mansion, is because he never got married!

Cynical, sad, but true. Marriage, for a man (or the higher wage-earner, if you consider cases like Britney Spears), is a terrible, stupid, 70% chance you'll lose investment.

Marriage, in the next generation, may be something that only poor people can afford.

But, it doesn’t seem society is trending this way.
