I'm not sure if I'm in the right area with this, but here we go:

How many people here are actually old enough to have watched the original moon landing on TV 40 years ago? I was 8 at the time and the mother of one of my classmates phoned all the other mothers in the neighborhood and got a group of us together at her house to watch the landing on TV. She made a big party of it.

An offshoot of this is the issues about hoaxes that have also cropped up. Some websites and recent TV programs claim that the landing was a hoax. My own point of view is that the landing was the real McCoy. There were so many people involved in pulling this off - many hundreds at least - that it's almost impossible to keep them all quiet if it was a hoax. At least one of them would have come forward by now saying that it was a hoax if that's what it was.

What are your thoughts on this?

I was only 4 at the time so I don't remember it.

I agree with you on the reality of the landing and the magnitude of pulling off such a hoax. We did do is multiple times after that day.

I remember all of the Apollo missions very well. In fact, I still remember where I was when I saw Eagle land on the moon. We were at my sister's girl's camp in Connecticut and a large crowd wasgathered around a b/w TV set. When Eagle actually landed, we all applauded. After we got home that night, we stayed up to watch the first moon walk. Of course, we didn't have VCRs back then.

You've probably seen the movie Apollo 13. We were all on pins and needles during the real mission after the explosion.

Being as old as dirt , I was working at the time. But the TVs were set up and we all watched it.

I heard one of the astronauts being interviewed this weekend. They asked him about the conspiracy, and he just laughed and said "I don't even know what to say to people like that. We all saw it lift off the ground---it went somewhere. We saw the view of Earth from somewhere very far away. It looked like the Moon---there weren't any cigarette butts laying around."

I was 8 at the time, and we were on our way from a visit to Mt. Rushmore to stay with relatives in Pierre, SD. We walked into my aunt and uncle's home just as Neil Armstong was stepping out onto the surface. No one hugged, said hello, or anything - we were ushered into the living room and we just sat down and watched, hardly breathing. It was an amazing day!
