Hi everyone!
My name is Laura8, from NJ, and I have been a Spanish Teacher for 10 years. Due to the horrible situation that Teachers are currently in, I have decided to leave the Field and focus my energy elsewhere. I am mentally exhausted. Besides being a Translator, any ideas about which direction I could go? I would like to try and stay with childen if I could..Thanks! Laura8

Hi Laura8,

I too am a (now) former teacher who left the field. Personally, I went into educational sales. A couple of warnings about this: With the state of the economy, this is an extremely stressful job. Also, while I certainly didn't end work everyday at 3:00, I work many more hours now than I ever did when I taught. (Think 60 hours...)

Now, on the plus side, it can be a great job with great benefits--company car, gas, and insurance, company paid phone and internet, good benefits. Plus, I also feel that I'm still helping children.

In the interest of being fair, I must admit to you that I am also strongly considering a return to teaching. For one, I miss my students. Also, the hours I work and the travel are hard on my kids.

Good luck!

If you are willing to go back to school, we could always use more mental health therapists that speak Spanish

I know you said "besides being a translator" but we can always use those in hospitals

You are VERY marketable as a translator - is there a reason this does not appeal? You could work with kids in pediatrics, too!
