I'm interested in seeing if there are any professional accountants trolling the boards.

Would like to know the views of CPAs in the US and what they think of the CMA designation.

CMA appears to be much more valuable in other English speaking jurisdictions: UK, Canada and New Zealand.

Just looking for a little insight.

I'm not a CPA but I worked for a Big 4 firm for over five years. I didn't work in audit/IA but I can tell you that the CMA designation has little value in my experience. Of course, that can always change (things can change quickly in those firms). I also worked in the federal services practice though so I always found designations like the CGFM, PMP, CIA and CFE to be more desirable from the firm's viewpoint. Couldn't tell you what the latest big thing is though as I haven't worked there since May.

Thanks for that.

That is pretty much what I expected to hear in the U.S. setting. I'm not quite sure what the difference is in the U.S.

In Canada and the other countries I mentioned the CMA has a lot more value.

I'm sure there is a connection between the training for a CMA in the U.S. and the relative lack of value the CMA compared to the other countries.

American CMAs aren't recognized in the UK, Canada, New Zealand or Australia. However, if you have a CMA (or the equivalent) in one of those jurisdictions getting recognized in one of the other is relatively easy.
