What type of feedback re your performance is offered by your Company?

Mine offers two types:

1. Open Questionnaire - I can see who wrote which comments.

2. Closed Survey - around 20 questions which are answered anonymously.

Both of these are then evaluated by my Manager in determining areas of strength and weakness.

Ours is pretty pathetic. We have about 20 areas (ie: plays well with others, follows direction) and our direct supervisor is the sole judge as to which of the 5 boxes gets a check mark for each area. No, it's not really fair and impartial.

In addition to that, we have quantifiable output that we receive every month that shows productivity and accuracy for ourselves as well as the department average.

interesting, ours is different.
We meet with our manager and have an open discussion going over how many of our goals were completed. In addition, they ask fellow managers, etc how we evaluate this year. However, they do not comment as far as who, and what it was said. As a result, this is used to evaluate our overall grading, in addition to our completion of goals.

Ours isn't real great. We get a semi-annual evaluation that's really window dressing. You're evaluated on a scale of 1 to 3. 3 being the best. Unfortunately, I don't recall anyone getting anything but all 3's. The politcal correctness of the workplace leaves many supervisors not wanting their butt in a sling, defending why an employee was given 1 or 2 in various categories because of complaints or possible law suits. My supervisor will nominate us for on the spot awards, sustained outstanding performance awards or employee of the month. You get the recognition, a pretty piece of paper and cash. You know at least someone in the chain of command appreciates the work you do.

We have two forms.

The first is where supervisors evaluate employees. And let me just tell you how jacked up this is. Supervisors rarely complete them on time, and about the only time they do is when someone decides it's important. Supervisors are supposed to complete these annually. I once had a supervisor to complete three of mine at once, and he wasn't even my supervisor when the first two were supposed to have been done. The form is scored from 1 to 3, with 1 being deficient and 3 being superior. Now, here's the catch. No one is allowed to score above a 2 as a matter of company policy. No one is allowed to score below a 2, because, that would mean the person should have been terminated long before the appraisal becomes due. Therefore, all employees no matter how good or sorry look the same on paper.

The second evaluation is for the employees to rate the facility. It's supposed to be anonymous, but it asks for the area and job title. It's very easy to detemine who said what with not much effort. It's the same evaluation each year and is mandatory. And never once has anything ever changed based on the employee evaluations. It's a joke.
