Did you start up in one field and end up in another, totally unrelated field? If so, is/was your new field what you expected it to be?

I started off in Finance, then Operations and then Engineering... and I am enjoying every minute of it!

I started out in the Army, then switched to Higher Education, loved both of them but just had one of those moments when I thought...perhaps there is more to life than this, and now I am considering another switch...not sure what to.

I would encourage anyone to switch as it helps you be more dimensional and you can hold a decent conversation with more people.

I worked a longtime in the I.T. industry and corp america. A few years ago I had the opportunity to pursue a lifelong passion/interest in music/films.

So I "retired" from I.T. and went to school to become a certified audio engineer. I recently re-located to L.A. and trying to break into Hollywood now.

I would not go back, but I do miss the healthy paychex, bonuses, benefits, and 401k plans that comes with an I.T. job lol. Now it's completely different for me. All freelance, no benefits, no bonuses, no raises, just the eternal search/quest for the next "paying gig" to keep it going.

Yes and no. The no part is that I got a job in my field. The yes part is that the job although the title and everything is in my field affords me very opprotunity to do work which is actually what any other person in my field would be doing. It's almost like being a glorified flunky with a fancy title instead of a professional.

I started out in teaching. I have taught everything from PreKindergarten to Communmity College and enjoyed it--at least most of the time! LOL

Several months ago, I took a job in sales. Granted, it's educational sales, so I'm still in schools almost everyday, but doing something totally different. I am really enjoying this change.

That's not to say, however, that there aren't days when I miss my classroom. And this summer, I have really missed my time off! Also, I'm not ready to say that I won't ever go back to teaching, but for now I'm really enjoying my career change and I think it's giving me a whole new perspective on lots of things.
