work in my office is drying out and I ran out of things to do. I was put in one new big ongoing project but I was not given any work by the manager. I'm sure he could find various reasons such as I'm not good at those types of work, I'm not a team player, etc.

the real reason is I'm closer to a principal who the manager hates, the principal tried to help me with little side work, but she herself doesn't really manager projects.

so I've to go to work with nothing to do and worry about how to fill my timesheet. do you think I should "beg" for work from this manager or look for some office chores (which is non-billable though) or some other advices? thanks.

You sound bored and frustrated. Are you contracting? Or employed permanently by the company? If you are contracting, one suggestion could be to discuss with your Agency the possibility of being re-assigned to another company or requesting re-assignment within the company - reporting to a different manager. (I would really only recommend this as a last resort prior to leaving altogether.)

If you are permanent, there are some things which you can do:

~ Tell your current Manager that you have completed all outstanding tasks and would like the next task. (Any manager worth his/her salary should be thrilled with this approach.)

~ Can you identify a billable task suitable to your skills and the project needs? If so, present it to the manager and ask for it to be assigned to you. Give an estimated timeframe for completion.

~ Is this manager the overall PM? If so, depending upon the size and duration of the project, there may be other managers who have billable tasks and no staff resources to complete them. Ask for temporary re-assignment to complete the tasks.

Check out Monster.com's career center & other employment websites for information. If you have a mentor or someone there who has more experience/power, see if you can talk to them and get advice. Also google this, office politics, no work at job, underworked at job, etc.

Good luck!
