I would be...

The curator of a museum of natural history. Or maybe of human history. With telescopes and a planetarium, too. I always loved those places as a kid... Ah, who am I kidding. I still love 'em.

Or maybe a librarian. The kind that reads every book cover to cover that comes into the stacks. I'd have a cot set up in the basement and my meals delivered. Scratch that. A kitchen attachment. Food and books. Can't get much better than that.

Or possibly a steam mechanic or motorcycle mechanic. I have tools that haven't seen use in ages. Yes, I know it is not as much fun when one is working on other people's stuff, with deadlines involved. But there is more critical thinking to this sort of thing than one might think. That appeals to me.

I could also be a writer. I like to write. *grin* Articles and little stories, grand epic arcs and wee vignettes, technical documents and translations... If I had a dime for every technical manual and owner's manual I've had that contained needlessly confusing directions, misspellings, and ridiculously poor translations, I'd have enough to buy *several* new hardbacks. *grin* I'd especially like to see someone straighten out the recursive, passive voiced, misspelled, misplaced, and misdirected instructions for non-resident income taxes in a few certain southern states... I *know* I couldn't make them any worse. *grin*

There are many more things I can see myself doing out there. I've done several different things already, and I've found something to enjoy about each job I've worked at. Like anyone else, I'd like a bit more money and a bit more time to spend it in, but that is okay, too. Life would be pretty boring without room to grow and expand, now wouldn't it? *grin*

I would have gone straight from High School into college to be a Veterinarian. At that time, I didn't feel smart enough & my parents squawked at the idea saying they didn't have money for it...to think of something else. Well, there was Marine Biologist I said. Reply: your last name is not Cousteau, women don't do that, there aren't any jobs out there, & if there were, they don't pay much. Both of my true passions dashed in one conversation. Didn't even consider student loans, etc to fund my education. Ocelot

I'd be an attorney and blow Chris Christie's socks off! Not only would I make a lot more money than I do as a teacher, but I'd put my state's governor in his place.

Wow, me too. I wanted to be a vet throughout childhood. Wasn't good in biology or chemistry in high school, ended up pursuing studies that came easy to me -- math, computers. Wrong choice!

Now I'm retired and I adopt "problem" pets and volunteer at an animal shelter -- so I've ended up being basically an animal caretaker, which is what I wanted.

My dream is to work in the movie industry. This passion was ignigted when I saw Jurassic Park. I had always love dinosaurs and to see them come alive on the big screen fueled my imagination. So I went to school for computer animation. About half way though, I chaperoned my cousins to see Ants. And as I sat there watching the reactions of all the kids, their wide-eyed wonder, their smiles, their laughing, everything just clicked. That was why I was doing it. I wanted to be responsible for that. I wanted to look around the theater and know that I had a part in that.

I also did not have help. My parents didn't have the money. They let me live at home rent free so long as I saved all my earnings for school. I worked and saved for 2 years while I waited to be old enough to take out my own loans. I also worked part time while in school. It took a little longer, but I got my degree. Unfortunately, the economy tanked right after I graduated.

Everyone seems to be so sure here! As for me, I honestly have no idea. I have never really known what I wanted to do with my life. I have debated about the military, possibly something overseas in a foreign country, but I really couldn't say for certain. I guess I just enjoy learning new things, so I whatever I WOULD be doing it would be something new, different and hopefully exciting!
