I was never an ardent reader of comics.

With the exception of Footrot Flats! Horse was so cool, the dog over-thought everything and was really a big sooky!

My first husband liked comics. Action Heroes. He even had some nickel comic books (really old).

Today, I mostly like Doonesbury, Mutts, Garfield. I also really like Dilbert (Scott Adams used to work at the phone company, and so did I).

My basement is filled with them. I eventually stopped buying them when gas prices started to ride and I needed to make the sacrifice. I find it easier now (and more cost effective) to pick up the few trade paperbacks I want to read every now and then.

I have a question, do you consider Manga to be the same as DC or Marvel or any other american comic?

Yes. They're still comics, just a different style and format than the western equivalent (not to mention different cultural takes on certain subjects).

When I was a kid I loooooved Richie Rich comic books. I lost interest in comic books as I grew up until I reconnected with an old friend who owns a comic book company, they do comics about real people...his company was just featured in the NY Times yesterday which was very exciting!

So you like true to life bio type comics. I did read once a comic that had to do with the life and "death" of Robert Smith, it's the closest thing I can think of that matches what your friend is doing.

I am a bit of a girly geek through and through and love comics. Not into the superhero genre as I was when I was a pre-pubescent lass (more of a DC/Vertigo girl then I was Marvel). Now I love more of the one shots or some of the shorter series though I am thoroughly hooked on the Walking Dead right now. I love me some zombies.

Never really got into Manga too much though there are a few good series. Old school comic strip faves included Calvin and Hobbes and the Peanuts. Newer strips...you have to love Penny Arcade.

I like a lot of the fantasy sci fi manga, but the total girl in me still likes the girly cute manga and high school stuff.
For a while I was really into Spawn comics, but they got expensive and complicated. :-/
Does anyone like Over the Hedge? I think that's pretty hilarious. ;-D
